摘要: A rotary dryer (10) is provided with interacting heat transfer stator (14) and rotor (16) for improved processing capability. The stator (14) comprises a stationary row of planar heat exchange banks (64) supported within the vessel (12) of the dryer (10). The rotor (16) has a complemental number of annular heat exchange vanes (38) interleaved between the heat exchange banks (64) of the stator (14) to create desired low-level agitation of the processed material as the rotor (16) turns and to provide increased heat transfer efficiency. The vanes (38) on the rotor (16) and the banks (64) of the stator (14) each comprise an open grillwork of tubular members (44, 66) whereby the processed material may flow freely through the vanes (38) and banks (64) between an inlet (26) and an outlet (28) for additionally increased heat transfer efficiency and reduced residence time for the material.

摘要: A coffee processor having a grinder and a densifier is disclosed. The densifier comprises an elongated housing (260) having a mixing chamber (213) configured to receive ground coffee. The mixing chamber has an inlet end opposite a discharge end. The discharge end has a discharge door. The densifier has a mixing shaft (250) driven by a mixing motor (220), the mixing shaft (250) extending along a longitudinal length of the mixing chamber (213). The densifier has a plurality of pins (231, 232, 233, 234) fixed to the mixing shaft (250) and configured to agitate a bed of coffee within the mixing chamber (213). An automatic coffee density control system is also disclosed. A mixer motor load sensor is signal connected to a controller and configured to report a mixer motor load to the controller. The controller is configured to signal a discharge door actuator to move the discharge door a predefined distance to increase or decrease the mixer motor load when the mixer motor load sensor reports a mixer motor load value that is outside a predefined mixer motor load operating range or setpoint.

摘要: A method and apparatus for the crystallization of solids from liquids includes a vessel (8) having an elongate vertical spray chamber (10) which overlies and is in flow communication with a collection basin (22) for collecting slurry from the spray chamber. The collection basin has a cross-section larger than the cross-section of the spray chamber and preferably includes a side wall (24) which extends upwardly beyond the lower end (18) of the spray chamber (10) to define an opening between the wall of the basin and the spray chamber which communicates with the atmosphere. A blower (14) is located in the top of the spray chamber to draw air at substantially ambient atmospheric conditions through' the opening between upper end of the basin and lower end of the spray chamber and upwardly through the chamber (10). The slurry solution which is to be concentrated and crystallized is sprayed into the chamber and directly contacts the air flowing through the chamber thereby resulting in evaporation and concentration of the sprayed slurry and and crystallization of solids therefrom. The slurry collected in the collection basin is recirculated and returned as a spray at the upper end of the chamber. If desired, the recirculated slurry may be heated prior to being returned as a spray at the upper end of the chamber and the heating may be achieved in a heat exchanger (36) so as to utilize waste heat in its operation; this may also be employed to condense the otherwise wasted vapour from a series of vacuum evaporators and further concentrate the product.

摘要: A surface-cooled fluid bed crystallizer apparatus and method are disclosed wherein submerged heat exchanger surfaces (typically heat exchanger tubes or plates through which a coolant is passed) are bathed with a stream of gas bubbles (preferably air). The gas bubbles increase localized velocity at the heat exchanger surfaces, improves heat transfer, reduces crystallization on the heat exchanger surfaces and gently keeps the crystals in suspension, thereby avoiding unwanted nucleation as is characterized by the use of mechanical circulation devices. By continuously removing the depleted magma and crystals, the crystallizer can be operated in a continuous mode.
