    摘要: The application relates to high-quality audio transmission through a network, e.g. using a higher level audio protocol such as Voice over IP. Normal telephone conversations which are provided by the telephone network experience a low audio bandwidth of approximately 3.1 kHz, This problem is solved in that an audio device (1110,1120,1130) is coupled to the network (1300) by a gateway (1210,1220). The gateway negotiates with the network in order to select a particular bandwidth from the network. Subsequently, an audio codec appropriate for the selected audio bandwidth is selected. Audio codecs comprise variable and constant bit rate codecs and codecs corresponding to standards such as MPEG, Dolby, THX, APT etc.

    摘要: In a method of managing network addresses for private voice communications, a first request is received from a requesting agent for a connection having a quality of service parameter, a second request for one of a plurality of network addresses based on the quality of service parameter is received, a network address in accordance with the second request is received, and the network address is sent to the requesting agent to establish the connection in accordance with the first request. A media access controller (MAC) is provided having a plurality of MAC addresses, and a requesting agent for sending a first request for a network address is connected to the MAC. A driver module is connected to the MAC and the requesting agent to receive the first request and determine whether the first request is for one of a multimedia connection or data connection. The driver module instructs the MAC to send a second request for a first network address using a first MAC address if the first request is for a multimedia connection, and to send a second request for a second network address using a second MAC address if the first request is for a data connection.

    摘要: A highly reliable early warning system that can provide efficient detection of railway activity and early warning of dangerous railway conditions to train operators and to central dispatch control offices. The warning system has an acoustic sensor circuit coupled to the railway for detecting sound waves resulting from physical vibrations thereon, an acoustic analyzer unit for analyzing the sound waves detected on the railway to identify any suspect conditions thereon and to generate an alarm if such a suspect condition is identified, and an acoustic signal processing unit for storing detected sound waves in a sound file for quick retrieval and analysis. The alarm signal may be transmitted over any communications system to the central control office and to trains traveling on the dangerous track. The stored sound files may be locally retrieved or downloaded to a remote location over a cellular system, thus enabling the analysis of the actual sound generated by the dangerous condition to determine the cause therefore.
