The invention relates to a method for controlling the structure of a block copolymer by selective ring-opening copolymerisation of cyclic carbonate and lactone monomers in the presence of a catalyst based on methanesulfonic acid, said method comprising a sequence of steps carried out strictly in the following order: a) dissolving the cyclic carbonate monomer in a non-chlorinated aromatic solvent, b) adding a bifunctional initiator selected from diols or water to the monomer solution, c) adding methanesulfonic acid (MSA) as a catalyst of the polymerisation reaction, d) once all of the cyclic carbonate has been consumed, producing a telechelic polycarbonate that can act as a macroinitiator of polymerisation of the lactone, and e) adding the lactone to the reactive medium for the selective production of a block copolymer.

The invention relates to a novel organocatalytic system having a sulphonic acid as catalyst and intended for the polymerization of carbonates, and a polymerization method using said system, which can be used to obtain bio-polycarbonates free of ether units intercalated by decarboxylation. The catalyst system for the ring-opening polymerization reaction of cyclic carbonates is formed from by initiator and, as catalyst, a sulphonic acid having formula R'‑SO 3 H, wherein R' denotes either (i) a linear alkyl group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms or a branched or cyclic alkyl group containing from 3 to 20 carbon atoms, or (ii) an aryl group optionally substituted with at least: a linear alkyl substituent containing from 2 to 20 carbon atoms or a branched or cyclic alkyl group containing from 3 to 20 carbon atoms; a halogen group chosen from fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine; a nitro group; or a CR 1 R 2 R 3 group, wherein R 1 denotes a halogen atom and R 2 and R 3 independently denote a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom.
