Rotating tools (31) are likewise arranged in the lower section (69) of the internal chamber, which forms a holding chamber for the heated plastic material that has been transferred there for the purposes of thermal homogenisation. However, said tools are purely mixing tools and do not contribute any significant energy, thus preventing an agglomeration of the plastic material in said holding chamber.

The filter (4) is supported on the downstream side, against the pressure of the incoming material, by a perforated plate (6). In order to replace a contaminated section of strip, the strip-like filter (4) can be displaced by a new strip section. A device is provided to facilitate said displacement, comprising a closing device (30) on the upstream side of the filter (4), by means of which the inlet channel (3) for the material to be filtered can be at least largely closed. On the upstream side of said closing device (30) a storage chamber (36) for the material to be filtered is connected to the inlet channel (3). A piston (38) runs in a sealed manner in said storage chamber (36), which may be displaced back and forth by means of a drive and which, in the extended position thereof, closes the storage chamber (36) to the inlet channel (3).

According to the inventive method for recycling PET materials and/or items consisting of PET, the PET material to be treated is heated in a pretreatment process, dried and at the same time, crystallized at a high temperature. This pretreatment is followed by a main treatment in a vacuum. Said main treatment consists of re-drying a material that has been treated and re-crystallizing said material at a higher temperature than that used for the pretreatment. The material is preferably not soften or melted during the main treatment - the softening or melting does not take place until after the main treatment step. A device for carrying out this method has a pretreatment unit (3) in which the material to be treated is dried at a high temperature, crystallized at the same time and optionally, also reduced. A main treatment device (4) in which the PET material supplied is dried, crystallized and heated to a higher temperature than that used in the pretreatment unit is connected to said pretreatment unit (3).

Said device comprises a case (1) containing at least one fixed, substantially level filter (5). The fluid to be filtered is fed to the filter (5) in the area around its periphery by means of at least one inlet channel (3). The filtered fluid is led out of the case (1) via at least one outlet channel (7). At least one scraping element (17) is pressed with its scraping edge (31) against the inlet-facing surface (11) of the filter (5), and is movably fixed to a support (12) which can be rotated by a drive element (15) around an axis (14) substantially perpendicular to the inlet-facing surface (11) of the filter (5). The scraping element (17) scrapes off the impurities adhering to this surface (11) and moves them to the centre of the filter (5), from where they are evacuated by means of at least one endless screw (38) via at least one evacuation channel (39) starting at the centre of the filter (5) and leading out of the case (1). At least one scraping element (17) is fixed on a support (12) in such a way that it pivots around an axis (18) and sticks out from said axis in the direction of the rotation of the support (12) and at an oblique angle to the filter (5). The scraper edge (31) of the scraping element (17) is pressed against the filter (5) when the support (12) rotates as a result of the counter-pressure generated by the fluid to be filtered. This effectively prevents blockages of the scraping elements (17).

The containers (1, 13) are connected by a sleeve (12) in which there is a stop valve (20) to facilitate trouble free maintenance of the vacuum in the downstream container (13) until the valve (20) is opened, thus allowing the vacuum in the container (13) to draw in the material in the upstream container (1). In the upstream container (1) (as seen in the flow-direction of the material), the material is pre-comminuted, pre-heated, pre-dried and pre-compacted and that process is enhanced by the turbulence in the material as it is sucked into the downstream container (13). Completely homogenous material is thus transported for further processing by a worm (16) which is connected to the last container (13).

These pockets (23, 24) extend in the longitudinal direction of the feed screw (13) and are mutually separated by narrow ribs (25, 26), when compared to the width of the pocket. One pocket (24) is open towards the feeding hole (10), the other pockets (23) are sealed against the feeding hole (10) by at least one rib (25, 26) of the housing (12) of the feed screw (13). In order to improve filling of the feed screw (13), a feeding device (27) for the plastic materials to be processed is associated with the feed screw (13). This feeding device (27) stuffs the plastic materials into the feeding hole (10) of the housing (12) of the feed screw (13) with a component of motion normal to the longitudinal axis of the feed screw (13). The depth of the pocket (24) open towards the feeding hole (10) is at least constant, seen in the direction of rotation of the feed screw (13). Alternatively or in association therewith, one of the ribs (25, 26) may be adjustable, to allow the feeding capacity of the feed screw (13) to be modified according to the plastic materials to be processed.

The invention relates to a device for preparing plastic material, in particular, thermoplastic material. Said device comprises a receptacle (1) for accommodating the material, in which revolving tools (21) that are transported on a support disc (9) and that act upon the material are provided. The tools revolve around the vertical axis (8) of the receptacle (1). The drive of the support disc (9) is operated by a shaft (4) which passes through the base (3) of the receptacle (1) and is driven by a motor (5). The material is removed from the receptacle (1) through a discharge opening (15), onto which the housing (16) of a worm (17) is attached. The discharge opening (15) is provided in the same receptacle (1) and lies below the circular path of the tools (21) and below the support disc (9). Additional tools (12) which are displaced are arranged in said receptacle (1) below the support disc (9) which convey the material into the discharge opening (15). The treated plastic material thus remains in the receptacle (1) for a long period of time, allowing the construction length of the worm (17) to be reduced and the drive energy of the worm to be saved. The invention also relates to a method for preparing plastic material of this type, in which the material is continuously treated by two sets of tools, arranged one on top of the other, in two sequential stages. In the first stage, performed by the upper set of tools, the material is pre-crushed and/or pre-heated and/or pre-dried and/or pre-mixed. In the second stage, performed by the lower set of tools, the material is treated in the same way, but in a less intensive manner than during the first stage. The treated material is then fed by the tools of the second stage to a worm which discharges the material from the receptacle.
