Abstract:
A rotary valve is designed to include a stator with multiple pairs of ports for connection to flow-through components and a rotor with elongated recesses that form flow channels with minimal dead volume and that permit a reversal of flow direction through any component by rotation of the valve through a very small angle.
Abstract:
In one arrangement, a cartridge includes a cartridge body defining a holding compartment, first and second fractioning compartments, and a number of flow channels formed within the cartridge body. A predetermined quantity of fluid can be held in the holding compartment when the cartridge body is held in a first orientation, and can be poured from the holding compartment to the first fractioning compartment by rotating the cartridge body about a predefined rotation axis to a second orientation, spilling the fluid from the holding compartment to the first fractioning compartment through one of the flow channels. The first fractioning compartment is such that when the cartridge body is in the second orientation, not all of the fluid can be contained in the first fractioning compartment, and fluid that overflows the first fractioning compartment flows through a second flow channel to the second fractioning compartment.
Abstract:
Valves, pumps, detectors, sample loops, fraction collectors and the like are individually incorporated into modules that are mountable in interchangeable manner at individual mounting sites on a base unit which also supports one or more chromatography columns. Each module includes fluid connections to other modules and a microcontroller joining the module to a computed and monitor through an electronic connector at each mounting site. The fluid connections between the modules and the column(s) are removed from the electronic connections and accessible to the user. A software platform recognizes the modules and their locations, coordinates fluid connections between the modules, and provides a variety of control, monitoring, data generating and data processing functions to generate chromatographic data.
Abstract:
Sample disks are excised from a membrane by a cutting apparatus that includes a cutting tool terminating in a hollow cylinder with an exposed cutting edge, the tool slidably retained within a sleeve or otherwise slidably mounted to a mounting body, with a spiral cam in either the tool or the mounting body. A rider is included in the construction and arranged to engage the cam such that sliding movement of the cutting tool translates into rotational movement of the cylinder and its cutting edge.
Abstract:
A detector system having a single emitter body. The emitter body has a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) for emitting a plurality of wavelengths. Each LED adapted to emit a different wavelength of light. A broadband filter is adapted to receive the plurality of wavelengths. A detector arrangement adapted to receive the plurality of wavelengths filtered by the broadband filter. A controller adapted to control the plurality of LEDs and detector arrangement.
