摘要:
Techniques are presented herein to facilitate higher bandwidth communications in a data center using existing multi-mode fibers and full-duplex optical communication techniques. A first device transmits to a second device a first optical signal at a first wavelength on a first optical fiber. The first optical signal carries a first portion of Ethernet traffic. The first device receives a second optical signal transmitted at a second wavelength on the first optical fiber from the second device. The second optical signal carries a first portion of Ethernet traffic. On a second optical fiber, the first device transmits to the second device a third optical signal at a third wavelength. The third optical signal carries a second portion of Ethernet traffic. The first device receives a fourth optical signal at a fourth wavelength on the second optical fiber, the fourth optical signal carrying a second portion of Ethernet.

In one embodiment a method includes defining a plurality of virtual drives in a physical drive in communication with a plurality of servers, assigning virtualization parameters to each of the virtual drives, and communicating the virtualization parameters to a drive manager located at the physical drive and operable to configure the virtual drives on the physical drive. An apparatus is also disclosed.

Various embodiments are disclosed for increasing Layer-3 LPM (longest prefix match) routing database in a network platform. In some embodiments, chipsets in fabric modules (FMs) can be partitioned into multiple banks. Network traffic can be directed towards a corresponding bank in the FMs by using a LPM table on a line card (LC). Entries in the LPM table on the LC can be programmed either statically or dynamically based upon LPM routes that are dynamically learned.

The present invention provides methods and devices for implementing a Low Latency Ethernet ('LLE') solution, also referred to herein as a Data Center Ethernet ('DCE') solution, which simplifies the connectivity of data centers and provides a high bandwidth, low latency network for carrying Ethernet and storage traffic. Some aspects of the invention involve transforming FC frames into a format suitable for transport on an Ethernet. Some preferred implementations of the invention implement multiple virtual lanes ('VLs') in a single physical connection of a data center or similar network. Some VLs are 'drop' VLs, with Ethernet-like behavior, and others are 'no-drop' lanes with FC-like behavior. Some preferred implementations of the invention provide guaranteed bandwidth based on credits and VL. Active buffer management allows for both high reliability and low latency while using small frame buffers. Preferably, the rules for active buffer management are different for drop and no drop VLs.

This document discusses, among other things, an example system and methods for memory expansion. An example embodiment includes receiving a memory request from a memory controller over a channel. Based on the memory request, the example embodiment includes selecting a location in memory to couple to a sub-channel of the channel and configuring the set of field effect transistors to couple the channel with the sub-channel. In the example embodiment, data may be allowed to flow between the memory controller and the location in the memory over the channel and the sub-channel.

A connector module collects or aggregates a group of cables having cable connectors, such as RJ45 connectors, into a single unit. With such aggregation, the connector module allows attachment or detachment of multiple cable connectors with multiple connector ports of a network interface circuit board at substantially the same time (e.g., during a single installation or removal procedure). The connector module, therefore, minimizes the amount time needed to install or remove individual cable relative to the network interface circuit board. Also, the connector module maintains the positioning of the connectors relative to the connector ports. Therefore, an operator can remove the connector module from the ports without having to track the positioning of individual cables and individual cable connectors relative to particular ports of the network interface circuit board.

An apparatus and method for a scalable network attached storage system. The apparatus includes a scalable network attached storage system, the network attached storage system including one or more termination nodes, one or more file server nodes for maintaining file systems, one or more disk controller nodes for accessing storage disks respectively, and a switching fabric coupling the one or more termination node, file server nodes, and disk controller nodes. The one or more termination nodes, file server nodes and disk controller nodes can be scaled as needed to meet user demands. The method includes receiving a connection request from a client, selecting a termination node among the plurality of termination nodes to establish a connection with the client in response to the connection request based on a predetermined metric, terminating at the selected termination node a command request received from the client during the connection by extracting a file handle defined by the command request, forwarding the command request to a selected file server node among a plurality of file server nodes interpreting the command request at the selected file server node and accessing an appropriate disk controller node among a plurality of disk controller nodes, and accessing disk storage through the appropriate disk controller node and serving the accessed data to the client. The number of termination nodes, file server nodes, and disk controller nodes are scalable as needed to meet user demands.
