    摘要: The invention relates to a method for the reproduction of coded pictures. On a video CD, the video data for the PAL system are stored with a resolution of 352 * 288 pixels at a frame frequency of 25 Hz. The video data for still pictures can be stored either with this resolution or with an increased resolution of 704 * 576 for the PAL system. Consequently, depending on the specification, for still pictures on a video CD, there may also be a data stream having a mixed resolution in addition to a data stream having a standard resolution. According to the invention, a preliminary analysis is carried out in a first step. After the identification of pictures NRes having the first resolution, these pictures are either skipped or their contents are stored in a buffer. After the identification of pictures HRes having the second resolution, these are fed to a decoding stage. In the absence of pictures HRes having the second resolution, a jump is made back to the beginning of a picture NRes having the first resolution or the data are read from a buffer and fed to a decoding stage.

    摘要: In such an apparatus including a large display area and a comparatively small camera area the camera produces a picture with a wrong perspective if the object to be picked-up moves to a border of the display area, for example a side view instead of a front view of a speaker directly looking to the display area.
    It is an object to provide such an apparatus avoiding said drawback and enabling pick-up of the object by the camera area with correct perspective wherever the object is situated in front of the display area.
    The camera area and the display area are positioned one behind the other and have the same dimensions. Particularly a camera plate (6) and a display plate (7) are displaced in direction of the optical axis one plate including translucent areas enabling transmission of light from the object (12) to be picked-up to the camera plate (6) or of backlight (10) to a display plate (7) including LCD cells.
    An advantageous field of application is teleconferencing or videophone equipments working with large display screens.

    The scope of parameter set identifiers is limited to not more than a Program Chain. Either existing files are extended by including the compression parameter sets directly, or separate files containing the compression parameter sets are created. In order to support easy authoring of compound content, it is proposed to amend each compression parameter set or groups of such parameter sets with scope period information, which can be based on time stamps, on file names, or on sector numbers on the disc. It is additionally proposed to employ an indirect referencing mechanism, where parameter set identifiers are referring to secondary tables, and where the entries of secondary tables are defined to be themselves identifiers referring in turn to entries of a common parameter set table provided once.

The size of subtitle bitmaps may exceed video frame dimensions, so that only portions are displayed at a time. The bitmaps are a separate layer lying above the video, e.g. for synchronized video subtitles, animations and navigation menus, and therefore contain many transparent pixels. An advanced adaptation for bitmap encoding for HDTV, e.g. 1920x1280 pixels per frame as defined for the Blu-ray Disc Prerecorded format, providing optimized compression results for such subtitling bitmaps, is achieved by a four-stage run length encoding. Shorter or longer sequences of pixels of a preferred color, e.g. transparent, are encoded using the second or third shortest code words, while single pixels of different color are encoded using the shortest code words, and sequences of pixels of equal color use the third or fourth shortest code words.

To relieve the user from administrative tasks, some configuration routines for such networks may be automated.
