    摘要: A bi-polar electrode for a Pb-acid battery comprises a lead septum plate (2) and a porous coating (16) on at least one face (18) of the septum plate (2) for anchoring at least a positive active material paste (24) to the septum plate (2). The porous coating (16) comprises multiple layers of lead particles (20) fused together and to the septum face (18) so as to define a plurality of interconnected, interstitial pores (22) therebetween. The particles (20) are fused droplets of lead arc-sprayed into the surface of the septum plate (2). A particular bi-polar battery construction useful with the bi-polar electrode is also disclosed.

    摘要: A bipolar battery comprising a plurality of bipolar electrodes stacked together, each bipolar electrode comprising a conductive septum (2) having positive and negative active material on opposite faces thereof. Each electrode has a non-conductive frame (6) formed thereabout, and a mesa-like lattice (8) which is integral with the frame (6), overlays each face of the septum (2) and is defined by an annular shoulder (14a,14b) formed between the border (5) of the lattice (8) and the frame (6). Discrete spacer frames (30) interjacent the electrode frames (6) separate the electrodes from each other and define a region (32) thereabout for retaining electrolyte of the battery. The faces of the spacer frame (30) each include an annular recess (14a,14b) contiguous to an inner rim (33) thereof which receives, in nesting fashion, the mesa-like lattices (8) for interlocking the frames (6,30) together.

    摘要: The specification discloses a bipolar battery and a method of making intercell connections between adjacent cells thereof including a container (100) having an intercell partition (108) a section (109) of which is thicker than the remainder of the partition (108). The thickened section (109) has an opening (114) therethrough receiving intercell connector links (124), which opening (114) has a mouth (135,137) at each end thereof confronting a respective one of a set of adjacent cell compartments (110,112). Barriers (134) are provided contiguous the mouths (135,137) of the opening (114) and define therebetween a region (116) in the opening (114) for receiving sealant (136) injected thereinto. The barriers (134) confine the sealant (136) to the region (116) and prevent it from exuding into the adjacent cell compartments (110,112). In one embodiment, the barriers comprise rails moulded onto the bipolar electrodes. In another embodiment, the barriers comprise compressed glass-fibre mats (134).
