A dedicated path may be selected to transmit the discontinuously transmitted application data whose length is less than the preset threshold. In this method, network resources may be reduced and data transmission efficiency may be effectively improved.

Embodiments of the present invention solve a problem in the prior art that, because no consideration is given to network energy consumption in the network selection, system energy efficiency is reduced. Through comprehensive consideration of network energy efficiency and system energy efficiency, the need for energy saving and consumption reduction is met.

The method includes: in a data transmission period, determining, according to transmission quality of the system, the number of antennas to be turned off and turning-off time; and in the turning-off time, turning off the determined number of antennas, turning on remaining antennas other than the antennas that are turned off, and transmitting, through the remaining antennas, the data to be transmitted; and during the remaining time of the data transmission period excluding the turning-off time, turning on all antennas and transmitting, through all the antennas, the data to be transmitted. According to the embodiments of the present invention, power consumption may be decreased while at the same time dynamic transmission performance of the system is considered, without an additional scheme design or signaling design and without the need to make any change to a terminal, thus decreasing implementation complexity.

The method comprises obtaining an optimal number of sub-carriers occupied by each user equipment, an optimal number of radio frequency links enabled by a base station and an optimal transmitting power of the base station by optimizing the number of the sub-carriers occupied by each user equipment, the number of the radio frequency links enabled by the base station and the transmitting power of the base station with an optimization condition that throughput of each user equipment is not smaller than a throughput threshold and an optimization goal of minimizing total power consumption of the base station; and determining the total power consumption of the base station according to the optimal number of the sub-carriers occupied by each user equipment, the optimal number of the radio frequency links enabled by the base station. The technical solution of the present invention can minimize the total power consumption of the base station in a downlink MIMO-OFDM system and reduce the energy consumption of the downlink MIMO-OFDM system.
