Provided herein are methods for the preparation of high purity stannous oxide comprising: (a) reacting a Sn salt with a C2-12 dicarboxylic acid in the aqueous phase to form a suspension comprising a Sn-dicarboxylate complex; (b) washing the Sn-dicarboxylate complex with water to obtain a wash solution comprising a washed Sn-dicarboxylate complex essentially free of the anion of the Sn salt; and (c) reacting the washed Sn-dicarboxylate complex with a base to form high purity SnO, wherein the high purity SnO has an alpha radiation count of less than about 0.002 cph/cm2.

A method for the formation of 3-alkylthiophenes or 3-arylthiophenes from 3--halothiophenes. More particularly, improvements on the Kumada coupling reaction for the production of 3-alkylthiophenes or 3- arylthiophenes by reacting a 3-hâlothiophene with an alkylmagnesiumhalide or arylmagnesiumhalide Grignard reagent in the presence of a catalyst and a 2-methyl tetrahydrofuran solvent. The 2-methyl tetrahydrofuran solvent allows for higher concentrations of the Grignard reagent with minimal or no dithienyl side product generation, achieving higher product yields and at a lower cost than other known methods.

An improved process and catalyst system for the isomerization of halothiophenes. More particularly, an improved process for the isomerization of 2-halothiophenes to 3-halothiopenes by reacting a w-halothiophene with a catalyst and in the presence of a base. The addition of a base additive to the acidic zeolite catalyst allows the desired isomerization to take place while suppressing side-reactions that result in the decomposition of the thiophene rings. The catalyst lifetime is thus increased and the amount of catalyst needed for the reaction is reduced, lowering cost.

A method for preparing a fast-drying particulate hydroxyapatite composition includes the steps of reacting a calcium salt aqueous solution with a phosphate salt aqueous solution to obtain a product solution including hydroxyapatite particles in aqueous suspension and a dissolved byproduct salt; purifying the product solution by removing at least a portion of the dissolved byproduct salt to form a purified product; and dehydrating the purified product by diluting the purified product with a non-water fluid to form a diluted product in a water/non-water mixed solution and subsequently removing at least a portion of the water/non-water mixed solution to form a dehydrated product.
