It is intended to provide: a method of producing nerve cells by inducing the differentiation of embryonic stem cells; a method of inducing the differentiation of embryonic stem cells into nerve cells; a medium to be used in the production method or the differentiation induction method as described above; or a method of elevating the purity of nerve cells obtained by inducing the differentiation of embryonic stem cells. Namely, a method of conveniently, selectively or economically producing nerve cells, which are applicable to the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and the like, by inducing the differentiation of embryonic stem cells with the use of vitamin B12 or a salt thereof, and heparin, a substance having a heparin-like function or a salt thereof.

It is intended to provide a pluripotent cell having the following properties: (1) being contained in a mixed-cell type mass obtained by enzymatically treating a tissue collected from an animal; (2) being contained a sedimented cell mass obtained by centrifuging the mixed cell-type mass as described in the above (1); (3) selectively proliferating when cultured in a liquid culture medium containing not more than 2% of serum and 1 to 100 ng/ml of fibroblast growth factor 2; and (4) by controlling culture conditions, being capable of differentiating into cells having characteristics of adipocytes, osteoblasts, chondrocytes, tenocytes, cardiomyocytes, myoblasts, neurocytes or vascular endotheliums; cells having differentiated from the above cell; and a method of conveniently acquiring the pluripotent cell in a large amount.
