Abstract:
A packet switched network architecture comprising a location area connected by a radio access network to at least two core networks having different functionality, wherein the radio access network switches packet transmissions from each terminal in the location area to one of the at least two core networks.
Abstract:
In the GPRS when an MS moves from a former RA to a new RA, a method of supporting mobile Internet protocol characterized in that on receipt of a routing area update message from the MS, a mobile Internet protocol agent advertisement is sent only to that MS. The move may be inter-SGN or intro-SGN or may involve a change of RNC. The method allows efficient use of radio resources.
Abstract:
A method is provided of registering a mobile terminal in an area of overlapping cell coverage by first and second networks for wireless mobile telecommunications. The networks are of different types. The method comprises: storing an identifier of the mobile terminal; storing in a controller a first record of in which cell or group of cells the mobile terminal is located in the first network and a second record of in which cell or group of cells the mobile terminal is located in the second network; and providing the mobile terminal with information of both records and said identifier.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a packet switched network architecture having a first location area supported by a first radio access network connected to a core network of a first functionality and a second location area supported by a second radio access network connected to a core network of a second functionality, wherein at least a part of the first and second location areas overlap thereby defining a common location area, and the terminals in the first and second location areas may have either one or both of a first and a second mode of operation corresponding to the first and second functionalities respectively, wherein mobile terminals in the first location area having the second mode of operation may be connected by the first radio access network to a core network having the second functionality.
