The leg material can be bonded to the material of the filter medium (2) by the effect of heat. The connecting element (1) can be used in a filter element (4) and particularly a filter device (5), such as an operating medium filter for a motor vehicle, for example. A method for connecting at least two end segments (2A, 3A) of a laminar filter medium (2, 3) provides that the end segments (2A, 3A) are each inserted between two legs (1A, 1B, 1C) of a corresponding connecting element (1) and the leg material and the material of the filter medium (1) are bonded to each other by heating.
