The data transmission method involves assigning one or more time-slots to a mobile station for data transmission, depending on the data transfer rate required by an application using the mobile station. A data call minimum and maximum requirements is determined for the user data transfer rate. The channel configuration consisting of one or more time-slots is dynamically adjusts and assigned to the mobile station for a data call within the limits of the minimum and maximum requirements of the data channel, depending on a varying allocation level of network resources of a mobile communication network. The minimum and the maximum requirements for a user data transfer rate are indicated by the mobile station to the mobile communication network, upon setting up a data call. A channel configuration consisting of one or more time-slots is assigned for a data call in connection with call set-up or handover. The channel configuration depends on the network resources currently available in the mobile communication network and enables a data channel performance which is not lower than the minimum requirement and not higher than the maximum requirement.

The invention relates to a digital telecommunications system, and particularly a method for non-transparent data tranmission. There is a non-transparent data connection (V.110+L2R/RLP) between a transmitting party (A) and a receiving party (B), on which channel coding is employed. The transmission buffer buffers the data frames to be transmitted and stores the transmitted data frames until it receives an acknowledgement of successful reception. In accordance with the invention, this is avoided by monitoring the quality of the non-transparent connection, and if the quality of the connection drops to a specific threshold value, by changing the channel coding scheme of the connection for a more efficient one. Simultaneously, however, more channel capacity is allocated for the connection in according with the chosen channel coding scheme so that the original nominal user data rate can be maintained unchanged or nearly unchanged.

The invention relates to a digital data transmission system with a non-transparent circuit-switched data connection (V.110) between a transmitting (A) and a receiving party (B), whose nominal data transmission rate may vary during a call. The data connection uses a sliding-window data flow control protocol involving transmission of data frames in a preset order, checking the order of received data frames based on this order information, acknowledgement of properly received data frames and retransmission of incorrect or missing data frames. The transmissing party (A) may temporarily group the data frames, whereby the resulting 'wrong' order of frames inside the group or between groups may cause unnecessary retransmissions. In the invention this is eliminated so that the receiving party (B), upon detection of a missing data frame, delays the transmission of a retransmission request for a period of time that will ensure that the missing frame has not been sent later.

The invention relates to a data transmission method in a TDMA mobile communication system. In a mobile communication system employing a so-called multi-slot access technique, one or more time-slots may be allocated to a mobile station for data transmission at the data transfer rate required by an application using the mobile station. In the invention, upon establishing a data call, the mobile station (MS) indicates the mobile communication network (BTS, BSC, MSC) the minimum and the maximum requirements for the user data transfer rate (Set Up). The mobile communication network assigns the mobile station (MS) for a data call a channel configuration, depending on the network resources currently available in the mobile communication network and enabling a data transfer rate which is between the minimum requirement and the maximum requirement.
