The torque-detecting device constituted of a portion (3) subjected to torque detection provided on a surface layer portion of a steel torque-transmitting shaft (2), a detecting coil (4) provided opposite the outer periphery of the portion (3) without contact, and detected signal-processing means (5). The portion (3) subjected to torque detection is a magnetostriction material layer constructed from an Al diffusion layer. In the diffusion layer, Al is diffused in the steel material such that its concentration gradually diminishes from the surface toward the center of the shaft.

When a radial offset amount, which is a distance between the center of the track groove (32) and a joint center axial line (X) is denoted by fr, a ratio R3 of fr to Rt is set to fall within a range of 0.07‰¤ R3‰¤0.19. When an effective cured-layer depth with Hv 513 is denoted by Di and the diameter of the ball is denoted by d, a bottom surface of a track groove of an inner joint member includes a cured layer with an effective cured-layer depth ratio Di/d of at least 0.111 or more.
