A mobile communication system includes a plurality of base stations (111) and a mobile station (112) communicating with the base station (111) through a wireless channel. The system comprises a part (16; 16') which measures an amount of information transferred between the base station (111) and the mobile station (112) and a comparator (16; 16') which compares the measured amount of information with first and second threshold values corresponding to a currently used wireless channel. A wireless channel changeover part (17; 17') changes the current wireless channel to a wireless channel with a transmission capability higher or lower than that of the current wireless channel when the measured amount of information is above the first threshold value or below the second threshold value, respectively.

A branch candidate selecting method by a mobile station and a diversity handover control method on a network side in DHO performance are provided which consider a maximum cable branch number and a maximum radio branch number of the mobile station, when the mobile station detects a plurality of addition branch candidates and deletion branch candidates. The mobile station inserts a plurality of addition branch candidates and deletion branch candidates, that is, all the DHO candidates into one handover trigger signal, and notifies the network. The addition branch candidates are put into addition information parameters in the handover trigger signal, and the deletion branch candidates are put into deletion information parameters. To simplify processing on the network side, the network side separates the addition branch candidates from the deletion branch candidates, and carries out sequential processing of them independently.

The present invention relates to a method of downlink transmission power control in a mobile communication system formed by a plurality of base stations (1, 2) and a mobile station (5) to be connected with the base stations (1, 2) via radio channels. Also, the mobile communication system comprises a base station control station (11) for controlling the base stations (1, 2). There is carried out a primary downlink transmission power control using a primary control signal which is transmitted from the mobile station (5) and terminated at each base station (1, 2) in short-time intervals. Also, the base station control station (11) carries out an additional downlink transmission power control using additional control signals which are transmitted in long-time intervals from the base station control station (11) to the base stations (1, 2) during a site diversity period. This allows to maintain a transmission power of each base station (1, 2) at nearly the same level.
