摘要: A light emitting device provided with a light emitting element having a semiconductor light emitting layer and a photoluminescence fluorophor which absorbs part of the light emitted from the light emitting element and emits light having a wavelength which is different from that of the absorbed light. The light emitting layer of the light emitting element is composed of a nitride compound semiconductor and the photoluminescence fluorophor contains a garnet-based fluorophor activated with cerium containing at least one element selected from among the elements of Y, Lu, Sc, La, Gd, and Sm and at least one element selected from among the elements of Al, Ga and In. As a result, a white light emitting diode having high luminance and a light emitting characteristic which is not deteriorated even when the diode is used for a long period of time is obtained.
