An optical disk according to the present invention has thereon an uninterrupted preformed groove adjoining a track. The address information of the track and sectors is prerecorded by variations in the preformed groove in a radial direction of the optical disk. An optical disk drive converts a detection signal, that is generated when the spot of a light beam crosses the track, into a binary signal in accordance with the comparison between the detection signal and two different slice levels, whereby a correct track crossing number is obtained. Another optical disk has thereon index marks that are prerecorded by partially varying the width of the preformed groove. Another optical disk drive detects the index mark on a specific track line, whereby formatting data with respect to address information is generated. The optical disks and optical disk drives are thus compatible with writing of the address information by means of soft-formatting.

Another optical disk recording and reproducing device further includes a speed offset value correcting device for correcting the speed offset value released in accordance with an access error in the coarse access when a distance between a position of the optical head and the designated track is more than a reference value upon completion of the coarse access. The speed offset value is accordingly corrected by a learning control, and this further improves the accuracy of the coarse access, saving the overall access time.

A nozzle plate (10) having a nozzle orifice (11), and a substrate (7) constitute part of a peripheral wall of an ink chamber (31). A pressure generating member (20) is provided in the ink chamber (31). The pressure generating member (20) has a buckling member (1), a heater layer (3), and a diaphragm (5). The buckling member (1) is formed into a generally plate shape and its peripheral portion is attached to the substrate (7). The buckling member (1) can be switched between a no-displacement state in which it undergoes substantially no thermal stress, and a buckled state in which it is thermally expanded and buckled. The heater layer (3) is provided along a surface of the buckling member (1) on the substrate (7) side. The diaphragm (5) is composed of a generally plate-shaped flexible material and provided along a surface of the buckling member (1) on the nozzle plate (10) side in such a state that at least its peripheral portion (5c) is attached to a peripheral portion (1c) of the buckling member (1).

An optical disk drive which discriminates whether a light spot is incident on a groove or on an area therebetween by eliminating a pulse that appears in a binary envelope signal when the light spot passes a level section. The elimination is carried out based on an ODF section detecting signal, the ODF section detecting signal being a level section detecting signal which is produced by detecting a level section (ODF section) of the optical disk. The detection is carried out by differentiating an envelope signal, which is the envelope of an electric signal corresponding to the amount of light reflected from the optical disk. Accordingly, even if the optical disk in use has interrupted grooves, the optical head can be accurately moved to a desired track located on a land or on a groove.
