In order to facilitate monitoring of a protection device connected upstream of the switching device with minimal wiring expense, a switching device with at least one main current path is proposed, with at least one contact interface, which is provided for contact with an analysis unit for determining the state of a protection device connected upstream, and which is arranged in a housing of the switching device, and with at least one internal electrically conducting connection between the at least one contact interface and the respective main current path. Due to the direct analysis of the switching state of the protection unit on the switching device, the hitherto required wiring to an additional auxiliary switch on the safety device is eliminated, and thus as well as the wiring costs, a possible source of error is also minimized.

Instead of a metallic sleeve, a thermoconductive massive body (1) is disclosed with a bore (6) having the same inner diameter D as the metallic sleeve which receives an electric connection (3) belonging to the proximity switch and an electric circuit (5). In addition, one side of the bore is enlarged so that a sensor fits therein.
