    Thereafter, while the upper plunger (1) is returning, a fluid under pressure is supplied into the hollow preform (5') to expand radially the sidewall portion (5'b), so that the sidewall portion (5'b) is brought into contact with the inner surface (3b,) of the die cavity (3b) kept at a temperature below the lower limit of the molecularly orientable temperatures for cooling and solidifying.
    Thus, the sidewall portion (5b) of a plastic hollow article (5) is formed from the sidewall portion (5'b) of the hollow preform (5'), and a plastic hollow article (5) having a flange portion (5a), the sidewall portion (5b) which is molecularly oriented, and a bottom wall portion (5c) is made.
