A pressure-resistant polyester container having a multilayer structure comprising inner and outer layers of a polyester resin and at least one intermediate layer of a functional resin, wherein in the container body portion, the inner layer of the polyester resin has a crystallinity of not less than 23%, the outer layer thereof has a crystallinity of not less than 18%, the average value of the crystallinity of the inner layer and the crystallinity of the outer layer is not less than 24%. The pressure-resistant polyester container effectively prevents whitening even after the passage of time and features excellent transparency despite of using, as an intermediate layer, a functional resin composition obtained by blending a functional resin with a clay. The invention, further, provides a process for producing the same.

The present invention concerns a method for forming an article by combining a polyester polymer and an oxygen scavenging composition comprising a polyamide in the presence of zinc and a cobalt in a melt processing zone to form a melt; and forming an article such as a sheet or preform from the melt. Also provided are molten formulated polyester polymer compositions containing a blend of a polyethylene terephthalate polymer and a polyamide polymer along with zinc and cobalt. Articles made from the composition are resistant to the transmission of oxygen, possess short induction periods, and have high capacity for sustaining lengthy periods of low oxygen transmission through the wall of the article.

The invention realizes easy manufacturing of a flat container molded by blow molding, in which the wall thickness of a container wall is made uniform, and which provides improved mechanical strength, heat resistance, etc. and has a good appearance. The flat container obtained by the blow molding of a polyester resin is characterized in that the container has a flatness ratio of not less than 1.3, and in that its body has a wall thickness ratio of a maximum wall thickness to a minimum wall thickness of not more than 1.6, a difference in elongation between a maximally stretched portion and a minimally stretched portion of not more than 150% in a tensile test at 95°C, a crystallinity of not less than 30%, and a difference in TMA non-load change between a maximally stretched portion and a minimally stretched portion of not more than 500 µm at 75°C and 100°C.

Multilayer laminates including films, sheets, preforms, containers and other articles having at least one wholly aromatic, amorphous, stretchable liquid crystalline polymer layer with at least one non-liquid crystalline thermoplastic polyester layer are provided as well as methods for producing and stretching the multilayer articles. The laminates are suitable for thermoforming and stretch blow molding applications and may be stretched at temperatures lower than the molten state of the liquid crystal polymer and at high total draw ratios without fractures or tears. Containers suitable for food or beverage products may be produced from the laminates.

A laminate of layers of polyethylene terephthalate and of a polyester derived from a dicarboxylic acid component comprising more than 20 mol % isophthalic acid and a glycol component comprising principally ethylene glycol. Preferably, a polyethylene terephthalate layer is biaxially-oriented. Such a laminate can have low gas-permeability. By blow-moulding with biaxial orientation, a preform of such a laminate can be made into, say, a bottle having good impact strength.

A method of manufacturing a monolayer plastic container is disclosed. The container has a barrier layer manufactured from (i) a polyester resin, preferably an aromatic polyester resin such as a polyethylene terephthalate, (ii) a polyamide material, preferably an aromatic polyamide material, and (iii) an oxygen scavenging material, preferably a transition method. The present invention also provides containers having a monolayer body. In the preparation of the barrier layer. a preform first is prepared by an injection-molding process wherein a preblend containing a diluent polyester, polyamide material, and an oxygen scavenging material is added to a base polyester during the injection molding process. The preform then is expanded to form a container.
