摘要: A compression-ignition type engine in which first fuel of an amount of not more than 30 percent of the maximum amount of fuel is injected in an injection timing region from about 90 degrees to about 20 degrees before top dead center of the compression stroke so that the injected fuel does not break up due to heat or burn until the top dead center of the compression stroke is substantially reached but undergoes an oxidation reaction. Next, second fuel is injected at substantially the top dead center of the compression stroke to start the combustion of the injected fuel.

摘要: A particulate trap (1) for diesel engine use which is less likely to vibrate or deform under exhaust pressures, and which achieves goods results in all of the particulate trapping properties, pressure drop, durability and regenerating properties. This trap has a filter element comprising a plurality of flat or cylindrical filters (5). Longitudinally extending exhaust incoming (3) and outgoing spaces (4) are defined alternately between the adjacent filters by alternately closing the inlet and outlet ends of the spaces between the adjacent filters. Gas permeable reinforcing members (2-1) are inserted in the exhaust outgoing spaces (4) to prevent the filter from being deformed due to the difference between the pressure upstream and downstream of each filter produced when exhausts pass through the filters. Similar gas permeable reinforcing members (2-2) may also be inserted in the exhaust incoming spaces or at both ends of the filter element to more positively prevent vibration of the filters.

摘要: A filter element roll (10) of a particulate filter (1) consisting of a laminated body of filter units (13) wound around a cylindrical core (9) is provided. Each filter unit consists of a pair of filter media sheets (5) made of nonwoven metal fabric and a corrugated metal sheet (7) interposed between the pair of the filter media sheets. The edges (51) of the filter media sheets on one side of the filter unit are welded together so that an exhaust gas passage (3) having a closed end on one side of the filter unit is formed between the filter media sheets. After welding the edges (51), a plurality of the filter units (13) are placed one upon another to form a laminated body of the filter units in such a manner that the welded edges (51) of the filter units alternately face in opposite directions. The filter element roll (10) is formed by winding the laminated body of the filter units around the core (9). Since the edges (51) of the respective filter units can be welded before they are laminated and wound into the roll, the welding work of the edges of the filter units is greatly simplified.

摘要: A particulate trap for use in a diesel engine which is inexpensive, and which is high in particulate trapping efficiency, regeneration properties and durability, and low in pressure loss due to particulates trapped. An even number of flat filters made from an unwoven fabric of heat-resistant metallic fiber are laminated alternately with the same number of corrugated sheets made of a heat-resistant metal. The laminate thus formed are rolled into a columnar shape. Each space between the adjacent flat filters in which every other corrugated sheet is inserted is closed at one end of the filter element by a closure member. The other spaces between the adjacent flat filters are closed at the other end of the filter element.
