A measurement device (70) is arranged between the feed reel (22) and first guide roller (24) and measures deviations in the position of the electrode wire (20) from a predetermined position. The carrier (50) is linked to a slide drive (60) which corrects deviations noted in the position of the electrode wire (20) unwinding from the wind-off reel (22) by axial displacement of the carrier (50) and thus ensures that the used electrode wire (20) is wound correctly onto the winding reel (40).
