    摘要: A sheet feeder of bottom feed type for use in an image reader or the like, in which a sheet can be fed properly into an apparatus at all times regardless of the amount of sheets stacked on a sheet stack tray. In order to transfer a sheet stacked on the sheet stack tray into the apparatus, a first pick roller capable of imparting a pressure by means of a pick roll, and a second pick roller for assisting the first pick roller in the center of the sheet stack tray are provided. The second pick roller is provided with a shutter which is closed when the number or the weight of sheets stacked on the sheet stack tray is a predetermined value or less, thus preventing the pick roller from coming into contact with the sheet.

The scanner apparatus 1 includes means 16 for temporarily stopping read of image data when an empty capacity of the buffer 12 has become smaller than a predetermined capacity, means 17 for writing, in response to the temporary stop, predetermined mark data on a storage line next to the last raster image data which has been read and stored in the buffer 12, and means 16 for resuming the image data read by overlapping the last raster image data which has been read, when the empty capacity of the buffer 12 has become greater than the predetermined capacity.
