A portable electrocauter used especially for electrofulguration, electrodesiccation and electrocoagulation contains a source of energy and an applicator. The electrocauter is provided with the source of DC with the maximal current of 1 mA and voltage between 0.8 to 12 kV. The applicator is provided with precisely aiming finish and the patient is conductively connected with the equipment by disposable grounding electrode while the output of the discharge between the working electrode and the surface of the skin is in the range of 0.3 to 4.0 W.

Eine erfindungsgemäße Einrichtung zur Metallerkennung bei funkenbildenden elektrochirurgischen Instrumenten enthält einen Metalldetektor, der anhand des zu dem Instrument gelieferten Stroms (sowie der Spannung) unterscheidet, ob ein von dem Instrument ausgehender Funke (18) auf biologisches Gewebe (11) oder ein Metallteil (19) trifft. Vorzugsweise erfolgt dies durch Bestimmung desjenigen Anteils des Stroms, der nicht zu einem linearen Ersatzschaltbild passt. Die Elemente des linearen Ersatzschaltbildes werden zuvor oder während des Betriebs in einer Regressionsrechnung bestimmt. Aus dem Strom wird als erstes Entscheidungskriterium die Funkenkenngröße F rel bestimmt. Als zweites Entscheidungskriterium wird eine Widerstandskenngröße R bestimmt, die den Gewebewiderstand kennzeichnet. Beide Kenngrößen werden mit Schwellwerten verglichen. Unterscheidet der Gewebewiderstand den Widerstandsschwellwert und überschreitet die Funkenkenngröße den Funkengrößenschwellwert, wird ein Signal erzeugt, das die Aktivierung des Funkens (18) gegen ein Metallteil (19) kennzeichnet.

A surgical fluid management system delivers fluid for distending a uterine cavity to allow cutting and extraction of uterine fibroid tissue, polyps and other abnormal uterine tissue. The system comprises a fluid source, fluid deliver lines, one or more pumps, and a filter for re-circulating the distension fluid between the source and the uterine cavity. A controller can monitor fluid retention by the patient.

A dielectric shield is operably disposed between the cutting electrode and return electrode. The dielectric shield extending distally past the cutting electrode to hinder current flow to the return electrode when the dielectric shield, cutting electrode and return electrode are submersed in a conductive solution and the cutting electrode is energized, thereby concentrating current density at the cutting electrode.
