Abstract:
A method of reducing the deterioration of a wetted hydrophilic coating caused by sterilization by radiation is provided. The method comprises the step of incorporating a thiosulfate anion and a buffer into the wetting hydrophilic coating comprising water. Some embodiments of the invention relate to a wetted hydrophilic coating, a wetting agent, a package comprising a wetted hydrophilic coating, and a method of sterilizing a wetted hydrophilic coating.

Abstract:
A catheter for angioplasty or coronary angioplasty of a vessel or tissue is described. The catheter includes a shaft having a proximal portion and a distal portion and a balloon is carried at the distal portion of the shaft. The catheter further includes wires having a profile that surrounds the balloon. A coating is carried on at least 50% of the surface of the balloon and comprises at least one drug or drug preparation and at least one lipophilic antioxidant at a ratio of 3-100% by weight of the at least one lipophilic antioxidant in relation to 100% by weight of the drug, wherein a combination of limus drugs with butylated hydroxytoluene as the lipophilic antioxidant is excluded.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a coating composition for drug-eluting medical devices, which enables a medical device to be delivered to a target tissue for the purpose of treating an affected blood vessel part such as restenosis, without easy separation of a drug from the medical device during the delivery process. This coating composition for drug-eluting medical devices contains a water-insoluble drug and at least one selected from the group consisting of ester compounds of amino acids, which have a hydrophobicity index of a side chain of an amino acid of zero or less than zero, and salts thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention is related to scoring or cutting balloon catheters carrying at least on a portion of their surface at least one drug or drug preparation and at least one lipophilic antioxidant at a ratio of 3-100% by weight of the at least one lipophilic antioxidant in relation to 100% by weight of the drug, wherein a combination of the at least one drug being a limus drug and the at least one lipophilic antioxidant being butylated hydroxytoluene is excluded.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods for making oxidation resistant medical devices that comprise polymeric materials, for example, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The invention also provides methods of making antioxidant-doped medical implants, for example, doping of medical devices containing cross-linked UHMWPE with vitamin E by diffusion and materials used therein.
Abstract:
The present invention resides in a clear, rigid, vinyl polymer part sterilized by exposure to about 2 to about 5 Mrad of gamma radiation characterized as having an increase in yellowness index from radiation, as determined by ASTM D1925-70, of less than about 10, and a rigidity as determined by ASTM Tensile Test D638 of more than about 250,000 psi.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or retarding degradation of a functional coating on a medical device comprising an antioxidant selected from gallic acid or a derivative thereof, the use of the composition for preventing or retarding degradation of a functional coating on a medical device from reactive species generated during exposure of radiation, and a wetting agent comprising the composition. Furthermore, the wetting agent prevents or retards the hydrolytic degradation of the coating during the intended shelf-life of the wetted coated product.
Abstract:
A multi lumen gastrointestinal catheter is disclosed. The multi-lumen gastrointestinal catheter has a flexible partition separating a feeding and an aspiration channel. A third smaller inflation channel is positioned within the outside exterior wall at the site of the flexible partition to avoid kinking at the inflation channel site, without need to re-enforce the weakened wall.
Abstract:
A balloon catheter for angioplasty and coronary angioplasty and a method for manufacturing the balloon catheter is disclosed. The balloon catheter includes a shaft having a proximal portion and a distal portion; a balloon carried at the distal portion of the shaft; and wires having a profile that surrounds the balloon. The balloon and the wires are polymer-free sequentially coated with at least one oxidation-insensitive drug and at least one lipophilic antioxidant such that the oxidation-insensitive drug and the antioxidant are not homogeneously mixed.
