摘要:
A device for compressing cancellous bone within a vertebral body is described. The device comprises an elongated expandable body (300) having an elongated axis. The expandable body includes an internal membrane (320) that directs expansion of the body to expand into an irregular shape that, when expanded, comprises a first region having a first expanded diameter, a second region having a second expanded diameter and a third region having a third expanded diameter. The first and third expanded diameters are greater than the second expanded diameter and the first and third regions are separated by the second region.
摘要:
A balloon (109) for use in compressing cancellous bone and marrow (also known as medullary bone or trabecular bone). The balloon (109) comprises an inflatable balloon body for insertion into said bone. The body has a shape and size to compress at least a portion of the cancellous bone to form a cavity in the cancellous bone and/or to restore the original position of the outer cortical bone, if fractured or collapsed. The balloon desirably incorporates restraints (117) which inhibit the balloon from applying excessive pressure to various regions of the cortical bone. The wall or walls of the balloon are such that proper inflation of the balloon body is achieved to provide for optimum compression of the bone marrow. The balloon can be inserted quickly into a bone. The balloon can be made to have a suction catheter. The balloon can be used to form and/or enlarge a cavity or passage in a bone, especially in, but not limited to, vertebral bodies. Various additional embodiments facilitate directionally biasing the inflation of the balloon.
摘要:
A system for compressing cancellous bone is described. The system comprises a cannula (26) for establishing a percutaneous path into a bone having a cortical wall which encloses the cancellous bone and a cavity forming structure (10) that is capable of being inserted through the cannula into the bone. The cavity forming structure includes an expandable body (11) that is capable of being expanded in the cancellous bone to compact cancellous bone and form a cavity. The expandable body includes a coating that comprises a lubricating material that reduces friction between the expandable body and the cannula during insertion of the cavity forming structure through the cannula. The system also comprises a tool for placing a volume of bone filling material into the cavity.

Devices and methods compress cancellous bone. In one arrangement, the devices and methods make use of and expandable body (300) that includes and internal restraint (320) coupled to the body. The internal restraint (320) directs expansion of the body. In one arrangement, a method for treating bone inserts the device having the internal restraint inside bone and causes directed expansion of the body in cancellous bone. Cancellous bone is compacted by the directed expansion.

A gastric probe comprises a flexible suction tube (5) of sufficient size for extracting the stomach contents, a gastric balloon (9) and a device (13) in the form of a nasal stopper (13) for fixing the probe in the predetermined position. A pressure-control device (16) with a preferably two-step pressure indicator (19) can be provided to control the pressure in the gastric balloon.

Disclosed herein are intestine pleating methods and devices for use with gastrointestinal endoscopes. Devices include balloon access device, attachable structure(s), and an elongate overtube. Attachable structures may be used to pleat intestinal wall and to advance the endoscope past difficult to navigate areas. Balloon access device may be used to improve visualization of intestinal wall and to pleat intestinal wall. These systems may be used during airless endoscopic procedures that do not require insufflation of the intestinal cavity. The systems may be used during airless intubation procedures. To pleat the intestine, the practitioner inflates balloon to a fully or nearly fully inflated state when a difficult area is encountered. Inflation of the balloon to fully or nearly fully inflated state ensures contact with intestinal wall. Practitioner pulls back on the endoscope shaft to drag intestinal wall back toward the proximal opening of intestinal cavity. Pleating facilitates forward advancement of endoscope.

Provided is a balloon access device having a cap coupleable to an endoscope and a balloon for sealing with the cap when expanded. The balloon access device allows a physician to both separate collapsed tissue and visualize the path of the endoscope without administering insufflation gas to the collapsed area of a patient.
