A method for creating ready-to-use products from a concentrated form of the products for sale at a retail price is disclosed. The apparatus to crate the ready-to-use products generally comprises a source of one or more concentrated products (32, 34, 36). These concentrated products (32, 34, 36) are delivered to a point of use which typically may be a small, consumer-sized refillable container (20). The refillable container (20) comprises an identifier (22, 54) having a first condition indicative of the refillable container (20) and a second condition indicative of refilling the container (20). The apparatus (10) dilutes the concentrated product to an appropriate level. The final, ready-to-use product can be a wide variety of cleaning products. The method provides for a larger profit to the retailer than normally available from the sale of pre-filled cleaning products.

The invention relates to a program controlled stirrer for producing pharmaceutical or cosmetic recipes, comprising a stirring unit (1) which consists of a stirring tool which engages with a mixing receptacle. According to the invention, the stirring unit is coupled to a micro-processor (5) which determines the length of stirring time and stirring speed at the stirring unit (1) in a program-controlled manner. The micro-processor executes a data-processing program with the following steps: input of (11) variable data; input of (11) constant data; determination (12) of the length of stirring time and stirring speed in order to produce the desired amount of the recipe by combining the variable and constant data; conversion of the determined length of stirring time and stirring speed into corresponding first current or voltage values; control of the stirring unit with said first current or voltage values. Preferably, the size of the receptacle is inputted as variable data, whereby the data-processing program calculates the number of necessary rotations of the stirring tool using the constant data stored in the data memory, then controls the stirring unit correspondingly.

A dispensing system is provided for accurately dispensing relatively small amounts of product such as paste inks and like viscous materials. The system includes a rotatable turntable (12) on which are mounted, in circumferential spaced relationship, a plurality of product receptacles (14) or canisters containing different product, e.g., paste inks, to be dispensed. The turntable is rotated so as to enable different product receptacles to be positioned at a dispensing station (16), and a weigh scale (20) located at the dispensing station weighs product dispensed from the receptacles and produces a corresponding output. A dispensing control device located at a dispensing station adjacent to the path of travel of the turntable controls opening and closing of the control valve (104) of the receptacle located at the dispensing station so as to control dispensing of product from that receptacle. A controller, which is connected to the weighing device and the dispensing control device, includes a data processing and storage function for storing information relating to the product contained in each of the receptacles, including data relating to a predetermined weight-based "dribble" level and to a final cutoff level, for each product. The controller controls partial closing, and then and full closing, of the control valve of the receptacle at the dispensing station based on the output of the weigh scale and the data relating to the dispensing cutoff levels for that receptacle.
