The apparatus employs dispenser heads (16) that each include a cluster of nozzles (14) which are fluidicly coupled to a plurality of reagent sources (12) for dispensing different reagents through the single dispenser head. Because each dispenser head (16) is capable of dispensing a plurality of different reagents, the apparatus can perform simultaneous synthesis in a plurality of cells at a high throughput without complex and elaborate control of movement of the dispenser heads (16) relative to the cells.

A method for handling a microplate, in which liquid (22) is dosed into a sample well (21) and the liquid is removed and, if necessary, the sample wells are further washed and/or rinsed. According to the invention, the liquid to be dosed is dosed into the sample well (21) of the sample plate (10), after which the sample plate is centrifuged so that the centrifugal force is exerted towards the bottom of the sample well to remove air bubbles, and/or the sample plate is centrifuged so that the centrifugal force is exerted away from the bottom of the sample well to empty the sample plate. The device relating to the invention comprises a dosing device and at least one centrifuge (24). In dosing, a distributing valve (14) and a dosing nozzle (12) are usually needed, and where necessary, a vibrator device (32, 33) to bring the liquid (22) in the sample well (21) of the sample plate (10) into a motion. According to one embodiment, the vibrator device (33) comprises a needle (34) that is dipped into the liquid (22) in the sample well (21) of the sample plate (10), and by means of the vibration of the needle air bubbles can also be removed from the liquid.

This invention describes a method and apparatus for a dispenser assembly (1) suitable for dispensing reagent in an automatic system. In embodiments, the present invention may include a metering chamber (32) that accurately controls the amount of fluid dispensed. In other embodiments, the amount of fluid may be controlled by the action of a flexible diaphragm (33), which may be assembled into a cavity of a dispenser housing creating a metering chamber. In another embodiment, a volume created by a metering chamber may determine the volume of dispensed fluid. When a diaphragm is compressed from its free or uncompressed position (36) to an inverted or compressed position (37), it may substantially conform to the inner surface of the metering chamber. Fluid enters a metering chamber through an inlet unidirectional valve (34) and exits a metering chamber through an outlet unidirectional valve (25).
