The invention relates to a process for producing a cast strip of steel with material properties which are adjustable over the strip cross section and the strip length, wherein a steel melt is charged via a melting vessel onto a circulating casting belt of a horizontal strip casting installation, is solidified to form a roughed strip and is optionally then subjected to a hot-rolling operation. Furthermore, the invention relates to a device for the horizontal strip casting of steel and to a hot strip. In this case, before the melt is charged onto the casting belt, a coating composition consisting of a carrier liquid with additives incorporated therein is applied to that side of the casting belt which comes into contact with the melt, and, before the melt is charged, said coating composition is dried and is then integrally combined with the charged melt.

The apparatus has at least one cooled divider wall at the entry end portion of the mold to divide the entry end portion into at least two feed chambers. Metal is fed to the chambers to form an inner layer and at least one outer layer. The divider wall has a metal-contacting surface for contacting the metal for the at least one outer layer, the surface being arranged at an angle to the vertical sloping away from the metal for the outer layer in a downward direction. The angle increases at positions on the divider wall spaced from a central section of the wall approaching each longitudinal end thereof. The apparatus is suitable for casting a metal having a high coefficient of contraction as an inner layer or core ingot.

A method of producing a composite metal material such as clad bloom by continuous casting comprises the steps of supplying molten metals of different compositions by using two immersion nozzles 2,3;32a,32b into the strand pool at different positions and of forming a static magnetic field zone 10 on the boundary between the two types of metals to prevent the mixing of metals of different composition. The method enables production of a composite material exhibiting a sharp boundary between the two types of metals used and enabling the thickness of the respective metal layers to be easily controlled by adjusting the location of application of the static magnetic field or the withdrawal speed of the strand of cast metal.

A process for producing a multi-layered amorphous alloy containing at least one amorphous alloy layer, which involves the step of ejecting a first molten metal roll onto rotating at high speed to thereby cause the molten metal to revolve along the roll surface in a layer state for quenching, and the step of ejecting a second molten metal different from said first metal onto the first metal on said roll to quench and form a two-layered metal layer on the rotating roll. This process can be widely utilized for the production of multi-layered alloys for use as various kinds of composite alloy materials such as a highly sensitive bimetal, superconductive wires, a contact spring composite alloy, a latching relay having two-stage magnetic hysteresis, a magnetic head with high performance, etc.
