Provided also is a parking position switch that is operated by the main gearwheel (6) of the gear train (2). To create a compact unit the invention proposes that the electronic unit (23) and the gear train (2) be fitted in a housing (3), the electric motor being flanges-mounted to the housing (3), which is equipped with a connector shell (70), the connector in the connector shell (70), the electronics unit (23), the electric motor (1) and the parking position switch being electrically connected by means of strip conductors, which are installed only in the housing (3).

The driving unit has a driving shaft that comprises both the motor rotor shaft and the shaft (20) of the worm gear. A housing (22) that receives the electric motor and the worm gear (14) is provided with elastic means (26) pre-stressed which press against the free front face of the worm gear shaft (20) to eliminate the axial play of the driving shaft. In order to eliminate the longitudinal play of the driving shaft in a particularly simple, economic and appropriate manner for an automatic device, the elastic means (26) are designed as a leaf spring element (26) that extends transversely to the axis of rotation of the worm gear shaft (20). The leaf spring (26) is fixed by its opposite end edges to shoulders (48, 50) of the housing and its middle section that extends between its end edges engages the face of the worm gear shaft.

Via a series of pins, cams and gears, also mounted in the housing (71), this input can be made to drive selectively two or three intermittent rotary motion mechanisms (125,107,105) according to the rotary position of the helical gear (73). Mechanical devices which are coupled to the intermittent rotary motion mechanisms, e.g. a rear window wiper, a liftgate lock and a liftgate window release lock, are therefore operated according to the position range of oscillation or movement of the helical gear (73). In this way, the number of electromagnetic devices, or motors, required to be fitted a vehicle liftgate is reduced.
