摘要:
A device for rapidly feeding sheet inserts to a pusher conveyor of a packaging machine comprising upstream of said device a feeder for feeding sheet inserts one after another in a direction essentially perpendicular to said pusher conveyor, comprising at least one rotary disc provided with at least one element for gripping the sheet insert, the at least one gripping element (26) being operable selectively to lock the sheet insert onto the disc and drag the sheet insert from a position aligned with the insert feeder to an advanced position on the pusher conveyor by causing the sheet insert to undergo a rototranslational movement, the relative drive means for the disc, for the sheet insert feeder and for the pusher conveyor being correlated in their movement.

This invention provides a system for stacking sheets comprising: - a stacking area (6012) that supports incoming sheets fed from an input section having a feed drive assembly (6420, 6422) and a feed surface (6432); and - a backstop assembly at a downstream end of the stacking area having a plurality of backstop drive elements (6520) each having a hub (6610) and a plurality of leaf springs (6630) that extend from the hub radially outwardly and around at least a portion of the of a circumference of the hub and each of the leaf springs being constructed and arranged to frictionally engage and transfer a downstream end (6436) of each of the sheets into the backstop (6013) as the sheets are each released from the downstream-most feed drive element of the input section.

A compact, lightweight and inexpensive copy sheet rotator includes a freely rotatable carousel (10) comprising a flat disc (12) and several, e.g. four quadrant, vanes (14, 16, 18, 20) extending from the disc (12). The carousel (10) is used in combination with and positioned in-line with a sheet transport such as a ball-on-belt registration mechanism (30) and an edge guide (25) for registering the sheets once they have been rotated. A copy sheet entering the carousel engages one of the vanes on the disc and its momentum causes the carousel to rotate thereby changing the orientation of the sheet within its plane of transport. A deflector (27) may be positioned over a portion of the carousel in order to enhance the guiding of copy sheets into the carousel by reducing the inertia of the disc after each copy is rotated and indexes each quadrant through the application of drag on the fins. A slider (42) may be provided which can be moved over the carousel to flatten the vanes against the disk so that copy sheets may pass straight through the rotator without being rotated

This invention provides a system and method for aligning, feeding, trimming, slitting, rotating, cross-slitting and stacking sheets, each containing one or more discrete page images thereon that allows for greater automation of the overall process so that reduced or no manual intervention is required to generate completed book stacks or "blocks" from a stream or stack of printed sheets. Sheets are fed to a first, upstream trimming station (720) to remove margin edges and optionally separate the sheets relative to the discrete page images. The sheets are then rotated 90 degrees and fed to a second, downstream trimming station (3770, 4880, 4910) that trims the right-angle edges and optionally separates the sheets into a final group of full-bleed pages, removing margins and gutter strips.; The sheets are fed to a stacking assembly (780, 3790) to be stacked in page order and any rejected, defective sheets or stacks are removed from the order.
