The low-reflection coating of the present invention is adapted to be provided on at least one principal surface of a substrate. The low-reflection coating is a porous film having a thickness of 80 to 800 nm, the porous film including: fine silica particles being solid and spherical and having an average particle diameter of 80 to 600 nm; and a binder containing silica as a main component and containing a hydrophobic group, the fine silica particles being bound by the binder. The low-reflection coating contains 35 to 70 mass% of the fine silica particles, 25 to 64 mass% of the silica of the binder, and 0.2 to 10 mass% of the hydrophobic group of the binder. The low-reflection coating produces a transmittance gain of 1.5% or more when provided on the substrate.

The at least one glass sheet has a set of low-emission layers on the other side, said set of layers comprising one or more oxide layers that are deposited using gas phase pyrolysis. The disclosed glazing has a minimum light transmittance of 60 percent (standard EN 410, illuminant D65 at 2°) with 4 mm thick glass sheets.

Methods for producing coatings on a glass substrate using combined chemical vapor deposition or other heat concentrated deposition (CHD) techniques. The term 'glass' in this context is defined as those materials that crack, break or are otherwise damaged prior to plastic deformation of the material. In combustion chemical vapor deposition CCVD, a reagent and a carrier solution are mixed together to form a reagent mixture. The reagent mixture is then ignited to create a flame (14, 16), or alternatively, the reagent mixture may be fed to a plasma torch or other heat source. The combustion source may vaporize at least part of the reagent, the vapor phase of the reagent contacting the surface of the substrate (A) to be coated. In this manner, a film or coating is formed on the glass substrate (A). In some of the disclosed methods, the glass substrate (A) may be preheated, to avoid differential heating of the glass by the combustion source. Various methods of reducing the differential heating are disclosed. This differential heating may cause thermal shock or breakage of the glass substrate (A).

Fluorine doped tin oxide coatings on glass are prepared by providing a uniform, vaporized reactant mixture containing an organotin compound, HF, water and oxygen, and delivering the reactant mixture to the surface of the hot ribbon of glass, where the compounds react to form the fluorine doped tin oxide coating. The fluorine doped tin oxide coatings applied in accordance with the invention exhibit lower sheet resistance, and improved uniformity in sheet resistance over the coated surface of the glass.
