A polymerizable liquid-crystal composition containing a polymerizable liquid-crystalline compound, which shows a nematic phase at low temperatures, has excellent compatibility with other polymerizable liquid-crystalline compounds to be used in combination therewith, and gives through polymerization a polymer excellent in transparency and mechanical strength. The polymerizable composition shows a liquid-crystal phase and contains a compound (I) having a liquid-crytalline skeleton with two or more rings and a segment structure represented by the general formula P?1-S1-A1-D1-E1¿- [wherein P1 is a polymerizable functional group; S1 is -(CH¿2?)w-, -O(CH2)w-, -(CH2)wO-, -(CH2)wC(=O)O-, -(CH2)wOC(=O)-, -C(=O)O(CH2)w-, or -OC(=O)(CH2)w- (w is 1 to 20); A?1 and E1¿ each is a hydrocarbon ring or heterocycle or E1 is one of the rings contained in the liquid-crystalline skeleton; and D1 is -C(=O)-O-(CH¿2?)m-O-, -O(CH2)m-O-C(=O)-, -O-C(=O)-(CH2)m-O-, or -O-(CH2)m-C(=O)-O- (m is 1 to 15)].

An adhesive or sealant composition comprising a compound of formula (I) provided that at least one of (a) R?1 and R6¿ or (b) R?2 and R3¿ or (c) R?4 and R5¿ includes an electron withdrawing group; and where necessary, a polymerisation initiator. Novel compounds of formula (I) are also described and claimed. Adhesive compositions can be used to bond for example glass and metal surfaces. Certain biocompatible adhesives for medical applications are included.

The present invention relates to a vinyl chloride-based copolymer which has excellent processability and is thus capable of providing a molded article having excellent appearance characteristics such as transparency, a method for producing the same, a thermoplastic resin composition comprising the same, and a thermoplastic resin molded article made from the thermoplastic resin composition. The vinyl chloride-based copolymer according to the present invention comprises N-vinyllactam-based polymer compound-derived units and unsaturated fatty acid ester-derived units in an appropriate ratio, and thus structural stability and processability can be improved by the units derived from the N-vinyllactam-based polymer, and plasticity and processability can be further improved by the action of an internal plasticizer of the unsaturated fatty acid ester-derived units. Thus, the vinyl chloride-based copolymer according to the present invention can be easily applied to industries requiring the same.
