Disclosed is a thermoplastic resin composition for impact absorbing members that is obtained by blending 1-200 parts by weight of an inorganic filler (C) to 100 parts by weight in total of 50-80 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin (A) and 20-50 parts by weight of a gummous polymer (B) having a reactive functional group, wherein: the thermoplastic resin (A) forms a continuous phase; the gummous polymer (B) having a reactive functional group forms a disperse phase; the inorganic filler (C) is dispersed in the continuous phase and/or the disperse phase; the thermoplastic resin composition contains, in the disperse phase (B) of the gummous polymer (B), greater than or equal to 10% by area of particles having particle sizes of 1-100 nm and formed of a compound produced by a reaction between the thermoplastic resin (A) and the gummous polymer (B); and the load-displacement curve at the time of subjecting a square pillar to high-speed compression under specific conditions has a rectangular waveform having high load and large displacement. The present invention provides a thermoplastic resin composition that: is suitable for impact absorbing members; is excellent in strength, rigidity, and heat resistance; and is resistant to breaking upon high-speed compression and can achieve a rectangular waveform having high load, even as a molded product having a simple shape.

Methods for forming the components are also described. Formation methods include dynamic vulcanization of a polyarylene sulfide composition that includes an impact modifier dispersed throughout the polyarylene sulfide. A crosslinking agent is combined with the other components of the composition following dispersal of the impact modifier throughout the composition. The automotive components can include tubular member such as pipes and hoses that can be utilized in exhaust systems, charge air systems, urea tanks, fuel systems, and so forth.

The halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer of the present invention is a halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer represented by the following formula: €ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒX-(R-S r ) n -R-X wherein R is an ether bond-containing alkyl group having 3 to 26 carbon atoms, X is a halogen atom, n is an integer of 1 to 200, and r has an average of 1 to 5. The halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer of the present invention is industrially very useful as a plasticizer of a polysulfide polymer. In addition, the halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer of the present invention can be used as a plasticizer for thioether polymers and high polar resins such as vinyl chloride, and an additive for materials that require a high refractive index such as an optical fiber. The halogen-terminated sulfur-containing polymer of the present invention is effective as an intermediate of a thiol group-terminated polysulfide polymer and the like.

According to the present invention, a method for producing the polythiol compound can also be provided, said method being characterized by comprising the steps of: reacting a polyalcohol with thiourea to prepare a thiuronium salt; and adding at least one base selected from the group consisting of hydrazine (hydrate), ammonia and an amine and an inorganic base (that is different from hydrazine (hydrate) or ammonia) to the thiuronium salt in the presence of an organic solvent to hydrolyze the thiuronium salt.
