Thermally-reversible polymer compositions are obtained by reacting compounds with isocyanate and labile-hydrogen functionality. Aromatic polyimide, aromatic polycarbonate, polyarylsulfide, aromatic polyester with liquid crystal property, and polyarylimidazolidine oligomers are incorporated into the isocyanate or labile hydrogen compounds to give high-performance characteristics. Such thermally-reversible isocyanate-based polymer compositions with high-performance characteristics are useful, among other things, as finish surface coatings on composite materials such as polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate. Novel phenolic-hydroxyl terminated polyarylsulfide and polyarylimidazolidine oligomers and their preparation are also described.

Carboxy-terminated prepolymers are prepared by the reaction of a diamine, preferably an aromatic diamine, or a mixture thereof with a triamine, with a carboxy anhydride such as trimellitic anhydride and a dianhydride such as bisphenol A dianhydride. The prepolymers, or functional derivatives thereof, are then reacted with a diisocyanate or diamine, or a mixture thereof with a triisocyanate or triamine, preferably an aromatic diisocyanate, to produce copolyamideimides. The products prepared using triamines or triisocyanates are crosslinked. Other products containing alkyl or alicyclic groups attached to aromatic radicals can be oxidatively crosslinked, e.g., by heating in air.

The present invention concerns wire lacquers containing: A) polyester resins or polyester imide resins or hydroxyl group-containing polyesters together with an isocyanate component, the free isocyanate groups of which are fully blocked; and B) alkylene carbonates of the formula (I) where R is either hydrogen or an aliphatic or a cycloaliphatic or an aromatic or an alkylaromatic residue. The feature of the wire lacquers is that they contain as a further solvent (C) aromatic and/or aliphatic hydrocarbons, excepting cresolic and phenolic solvents. The object of the present invention also includes processes for the continuous coating of wires using these wire lacquers.

On obtient des compositions de polymères thermiquement réversibles au moyen de la réaction de composés présentant une fonctionnalité d'isocyanate et d'hydrogène instable. On incorpore des oligomères de polyimide aromatique, de polycarbonate aromatique, de sulfure polyaryle, de polyester aromatique possédant des caractéristiques de cristaux liquides, ainsi que des oligomères de polyarylimidazolidine dans les composés d'isocyanate ou d'hydrogène instable, afin d'obtenir des caractéristiques à performances élevées. Ces compositions de polymères thermiquement réversibles à base d'isocyanate présentant des caractéristiques de performances élevées sont efficaces, parmi d'autres utilisations possibles, en tant que revêtements de finition de surfaces sur des matériaux composites, tels que des téréphtalates de polypropylène et de polyéthylène. L'invention décrit également de nouveaux oligomères de sulfure polyaryle à terminaison phénolique-hydroxyle et de nouveaux oligomères de polyarylimidazolidine, ainsi que leur préparation.

Composition comprising from 5 to 95 phr of a polyepoxide or other resinous component, from 20to 90% of an aprotic solvent, from 5to 95 phrof a polyimide having sufficient amic acid functionality to be soluble in the solvent, and sufficient water to hydrolyze the polyimide. A laminate is made from the composition by heating it until the amic acid functionality is substantially eliminated, then impregnating a fibrous substrate with the composition, heating the impegnated substrate to evaporate the solvent and B-stage the composition and form a prepreg, forming a stack of the prepregs, and heating and pressing the stack of prepregs to cure the composition. A wire enamel can also be made from the composition.

A curable organic resin composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a curable organic resin and (B) 0.01 to 100 parts by weight of a thiocyanato-containing organohydrocarbonxysilane or isothiocyanato-containing organohydrocarbonoxysilane represented by the general formula: X-R1-Si(OR2)n(R3)?3-n#191 (wherein X is NCS- or SCN-, R1 is an alkylene or alkyleneoxyalkylene group, R2 and R3 are monovalent hydrocarbon groups, and the subscript n is 1, 2 or 3). The curable organic resin composition possesses superior moldability and, when cured, exhibits superior adhesive properties on substrates such as metals.
