Abstract:
Herein are disclosed methods and assemblies for mounting an article to a surface by a double-faced adhesive. At least one spacer is used that is deflectable upon the application of sufficient force. When in a first, undeflected condition, the spacer provides sufficient space between the mounting surface and the double-faced adhesive such that the double-faced adhesive does not contact the mounting surface, thus the position of the article can be adjusted. When in a second, deflected condition, the spacer allows the double-faced adhesive to contact the mounting surface such that a bond can be established between the double-faced adhesive and the mounting surface.

Provided are adhesive articles and assemblies that include a flat and at least partially elastic backing along with a patterned adhesive coating on each side of the backing. When viewed from directions perpendicular to the backing, the adhesive on one side of the backing does not substantially overlap the adhesive on the opposing side of the backing. As a result, it is possible to use a stretch removable adhesive article that uses, for example, an aggressive adhesive to provide a reliable bond but still remove cleanly and easily from delicate substrates that would otherwise be damaged or destroyed if bonded with conventional adhesive constructions.

A mount for removably mounting a device to a reference surface is provided. The mount (10) includes a thermoplastic hot melt adhesive, and a tab (14) that extends from the adhesive. The adhesive is configured to adhere to the surface and the device when the device is mounted to the surface. The adhesive is also configured to be removed from the surface without damaging the surface by moving the tab (14) in a direction substantially parallel to the surface. A stretch releasing adhesive tape is disclosed comprising a pull tab comprising a single tab film which is adhered to both adhesive surfaces of the stretch releasing adhesive tape. The pull tab is foldable so as to comprise an unobtrusive visual appearance, and may also be extendable so that the pull tab may be grasped to activate the stretch release.

The adhesive tape includes a backing layer that is adjacent to at least one pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. The backing layer includes a poly(alkylene)copolymer. Each pressure-sensitive adhesive layer includes a polyisobutylene material. The adhesive tapes can be optically clear.

Adhesive tapes, articles containing the adhesive tapes, methods of making the adhesive tapes, and uses of the adhesive tapes are described. The adhesive tape is stretch releasable and can be used to couple two substrates together. The adhesive tape can be removed easily to separate the two substrates for any reason. The adhesive tape includes a backing layer and at least one pressure-sensitive adhesive layer adjacent to the backing layer. The backing layer contains a first acrylic copolymer. Each pressure-sensitive adhesive layer contains a second acrylic copolymer plus inorganic particles that are dispersed or suspended in the second acrylic copolymer.
