    摘要: A diverter fluid includes an aqueous carrier fluid, and a plurality of water-swellable polymer particles having a size of 0.01 to 100,000 micrometers. A method of hydraulically fracturing a subterranean formation penetrated by a reservoir includes injecting a fracturing fluid into the formation at a pressure sufficient to create or enlarge a fracture, injecting a diverter fluid into the formation, and injecting a fracturing fluid into the formation, wherein the flow of the fracturing fluid is impeded by the diverting agent and a surface fracture area of the fracture is increased. A method of controlling the downhole placement of a diverting agent is also disclosed, including injecting a diverter fluid including the diverting agent and an aqueous carrier fluid selected so that the polymer particles are fully swelled after contacting the aqueous carrier fluid for an amount of time sufficient to achieve a desired downhole placement.

    摘要: A method of gravel packing a treatment zone of a well includes the steps of: (A) forming a treatment fluid including a continuous aqueous phase and gravel, wherein the aqueous phase includes: (i) water; (ii) diutan; (iii) oxidizer in the range of 0.1% to 2% by weight of the water; (iv) organic acid in the range of 0.5% to 5% by weight of the water; and (v) transition metal compound in the range of 0.001% to 0.25% by weight of the water; and (B) introducing the treatment fluid into the treatment zone; wherein the design temperature is less than 180°F; wherein the continuous phase of the treatment fluid has a viscosity in the range of 10 cP to 75 cP at the design temperature; and wherein the concentration of the organic acid is less than would cause the diutan to salt out at the design temperature.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to an oil-free, water-soluble, liquid, polymer dispersion for use in thickening aqueous mediums, particularly completion and workover fluids used in the oil and gas drilling business. The dispersions of the present invention are comprised of hydroxyethyl cellulose and propylene glycol derivatives, preferably both propylene glycol polyether polyols and an aliphatic propylene glycol ether. Optionally these dispersions include water. Because of their low toxicity, these dispersions are particularly useful for drilling in offshore environments. These compositions rapidly disperse in and viscosify a variety of brines, including sea water and other light brines, with minimum shear and without fisheye formation.
