The cylinder liner and the method are applied to cylinder blocks and improve the adherence and the bonding strength with a cylinder block material in a favorable manner. The cylinder liner satisfies the following requirements: (i) the height of projections 1P is in a range between 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm, inclusive; (ii) the number of the projections 1P is in a range between 5 and 60, inclusive, per cm on the outer circumferential surface; (iii) the area ratio of regions each encircled by a contour line of a height of 0.4 mm is in a range between 10% and 50%, inclusive; (iv) the area ratio of regions each encircled by a contour line of a height of 0.2 mm is in a range between 20% and 55%, inclusive; (v) the region each encircled by a contour line of the height of 0.4 are independent from each other; and (vi) the area of the regions each encircled by a contour line of the height of 0.4 mm is in a range between 0.2 mm and 3.0 mm , inclusive.

A cylinder liner for an engine block assembly of an internal combustion engine is provided. The cylinder liner includes a liner member formed of cast iron and presenting an outer surface. A first portion of the outer surface of the liner member is machined to a reduced outside diameter. An aluminum-based material is then thermally sprayed onto the machined first portion, while a second portion of the outer surface remains uncoated. The coated cylinder liner is then placed in a mold, and another aluminum-based material is cast around the coated cylinder liner to form the engine block assembly. During the casting process, the two aluminum-based materials form a strong intermetallic bond between the liner member and the engine block.

Die Kurbelwelle ist hängend am Maschinengestell übervon unten her angesetzte Lagerdeckel gelagert. Letztere weisen zu ihrer Befestigung am Maschinengestell ebenso wie dieses Durchgangsbohrungen auf, welche von Zugankern vollständig durchdrungen werden, die an jedem Ende auf Gewindezapfen je eine, sich an einer Anlagefläche an der Maschinengestelloberseite bzw. an der Lagerdeckelunterseite abstützende Mutter tragen. Die Zylinderbuchesen sind durch oben aufgesetzte Zylinderköpfe ebenfalls über Durchgangsbohrungen durchdringende, zumindest an ihrem oberen Ende auf Gewindezapfen Muttern tragende Zuganker am Maschinengestell festgelegt. Letzteres umfaßt etwa in Höhe seiner biegeneutralen Zone einen Zwischenboden, an dem die zum Zylinderkopf führenden Zuganker mit ihren unteren Enden festgelegt sind. Zumindest die am oberen Ende angeordneten Gewindezapfen aller Zuganker sind über die Muttern hinaus verlängert und bilden mit diesem überstehenden Teil einen Tragsockel zum Ansetzen und Halten einer Zugankerspann- bzw. Mutterlöse- vorrichtung.

A robust engine assembly having reduced weight and efficient cooling, without an increase in fuel consumption or carbon dioxide emissions, is provided. The engine assembly includes a double-wall cylinder liner clamped between a cylinder head and a crankcase. A manifold is disposed along a portion of the cylinder liner and includes fluid ports aligned with fluid ports of the cylinder liner to convey cooling fluid to a cooling chamber located between the walls of the cylinder liner. For example, the manifold can be a low-loss hydraulic manifold cast integral with the crankcase. Tie rods connect the cylinder head to the crankcase to clamp the cylinder liner in position. Alternatively, the tie rods can be connected to a main bearing cradle located beneath the crankcase. No attachment features extend into the walls of the cylinder liner, which is especially advantageous when the cylinder liner is formed of aluminum.
