A fluid booster is in downstream fluid communication with the compressed fluid supply source for selectively introducing compressed auxiliary fluid from the compressed fluid supply source. The auxiliary fluid is selectively introduced from the fluid booster to have a velocity vector towards the engine cylinders that is greater than a velocity vector away from the engine cylinders.

Das Verfahren besteht darin, daß man einerseits das der Brennkraftmaschine (1) zugeführte Luft-Kraftstoff-Gemisch (3) durch Zugabe von Zusatzluft (4) abmagert und andererseits das von der Brennkraftmaschine abgegebenen Abgas (6) katalytisch behandelt. Die Vorrichtungen zur Durchführung des Verfahrens umfassen eine Einrichtung (2) zur Zuführung von Zusatzluft und einen Katalysator (5), der entweder als ungeregelter Dreiwegekatalysator oder als reiner Oxidationskatalysator ausgebildet ist.

The invention provides a method of, and apparatus for, controlling the fuel to air ratio of the fuel mixture to an internal combustion engine which includes a fuel mixture feed system having a known type of carburettor and has the object of increasing the range of engine speeds and operating conditions in which the fuel to air ratio approaches the optimum value in comparison with the ranges achieved by carburettors of the type normally used. In the method the fuel mixture is supplemented with air and exhaust gas by utilizing pressure controlled air and exhaust gas valves (7,8) operated by pressure changes in the fuel feed system and/or intake manifold of the engine so that the valves open when the fuel to air ratio of the fuel mixture supplied by the carburettor is in excess of a predetermined value.

The vehicle's pneumatic booster system controller implements strategies for shaping the rate of the air injection during a boost event, tailoring the air injection to obtain maximum engine torque output while respecting the operating limits, by controlling the timing, duration, quantity and/or injection pattern during a boost event to achieve a refined distribution of compressed air injection over the course of the boost event to provide desired engine torque output and fuel efficiency while minimizing the potential for exceeding a wide variety of operation limits, regulatory, engineering and passenger comfort limits.

The invention relates to a fresh gas supply device (20) for an internal combustion engine (1) having a exhaust gas turbocharger (2), said device comprising a charge air inlet (9) for taking in a compressed charge air flow (28) from the exhaust gas turbo charger (2); an outlet (10) which is connected to the charge air inlet (9) via a valve section (17), said valve section (17) being closed in a closed position by at least one flap valve (23) which can be pivoted, preferably, about a flap rotational axis (24); an adjusting device (22) which is coupled to the at least one flap valve (23) for adjusting the same in the closing direction; and a compressed air inlet (11) for taking in compressed air into the outlet (10). Said compressed air inlet (11) is arranged such that the compressed air is directed into a compressed air flow (30) in the direction of the valve section (17) to the at least one flap valve (23). The invention also relates to a corresponding method for operating said fresh gas supply device (20).

An intake system in a multi-cylinder type internal combustion engine (E) comprises throttle valves (21) disposed in a plurality of intake passages (W) commonly connected to an air cleaner (13), and fuel injection valves (11) disposed in the intake passages (W) downstream of the throttle valves (21) in an intake direction. In such intake system, a plurality of funnel-shaped portions (19,1,2,3) are provided in a throttle body (12) having opposite ends directly coupled to an intake manifold (7) and an air cleaner (13), respectively, and each of the throttle valves (21) is disposed in the throttle body (12), so that its upstream end in the intake direction (16) is located at least on the corresponding funnel-shaped portion (19,1,2,3), when the throttle valve (21) is fully opened. The throttle body (12) includes ports provided therein, which are opened into the intake passages (W) between a coupled surface of the throttle body (12) to the intake manifold (7) and the throttle valves (21), respectively, and which communicate with one another. This provides an increase in space efficiency and an increase in intake inertial effect.

Es wird eine Vorrichtung zur Reduzierung des Kraftstoffverbrauchs und zur Herabsetzung der Abgasschadstoffe bei einer mit einer Einspritzvorrichtung versehenen Brennkraftmaschine beschrieben. Die vorrichtung umfaßt eine in der Luftansaugleitung der Brennkraftmaschine stromab der Drosselklappe angeordnete Mischrohrdüse zur Einführung von Zusatzluft, einen von stromauf der Drosselklappe herrschenden Unterdruck gesteuerten Regler für die Zusatzluftzufuhr und eine mit dem Kurbelgehäuse in Verbindung stehende, über den Regler in die Mischrohrdüse führende Zusatzluftzuführleitung. Durch Einführung von Zusatzluft über die Mischrohrdüse in die Luftansaugleitung wird eine Verwirbelung des Hauptluftstromes und eine Vermischung desselben mit aus dem Kurbelgehäuse stammenden Öldämpfen erreicht, wodurch eine vollkommenere Verbrennung erzielt wird.
