A turbocharger includes a two-stage serial compressor having first and second impellers, with a crossover duct for leading air from the first impeller into the second impeller for further compression. The compressor housing also defines a bypass duct from the crossover duct to the air discharge duct from the compressor, and a bypass valve disposed in the bypass duct. Under certain operating conditions (such as high-flow, low-pressure-ratio conditions) the bypass valve can be opened to bypass the second impeller, such that the compressor behaves like a single-stage compressor. At other operating conditions, the bypass valve is closed so that the compressor provides two-stage compression for higher pressure ratios.

There is disclosed herein a compressor control apparatus, and a refrigerator (700) including the same. According to the embodiments of the present disclosure, the operation of two compressors (C1, C2) may be controlled using an alternating current (AC) switch, thereby minimizing the use of elements as well as increasing the compressor capacity and enhancing the operation efficiency of a system. According to the embodiments of the present disclosure, a plurality of operation modes may be used to correspond to a load or freezing capacity using two compressors (C1, C2) . Furthermore, according to the present disclosure, two compressors (C1, C2) may be operated in a separate or simultaneous manner using a drive configured with two alternating current (AC) switches, thereby simplifying the configuration of a system to reduce the cost.

An improved method for sequencing variable speed centrifugal compressors on and off line to ensure optimal operating efficiency in a liquid cooling system under all operating circumstances is described. The present disclosure teaches modifying equipment sequencing decisions (to add or shed a unit), based in part on the position of the compressor inlet vanes. This new approach achieves improved energy efficiency of the overall system by taking into account operating conditions of individual compressors or chillers that may be sub-optimal.

The valve (40) is configured to discharge a coolant flow to the compressor (10) and the coolant flow has a ratio of cooled coolant to second flow of coolant that is variable in response to the first temperature.
