Ein dem Kessel (1) nachgeschalteter Wärmetauscher (5) zur Kühlung der Brenngase und zum Vorwärmen von dem Brenner zugeführter Frischluft besitzt eine Abgasleitung in Form einer Rohrschlange (7), die ohne Umlenkungen mit kontinuierlichem Gefälle von oben nach unten führt. Dadurch kann sich das die Schadstoffe enthaltende Kondensat nicht in toten Zonen festsetzen und die Frischluft umspült die Rohrschlange im Querstrom von unten nach oben. Ein Gebläse (9) erzeugt Unterdruck im Brennraum (4) und Überdruck in der Rohrschlange (7), sodass die Brenngase aktiv durch den Tauscher gefördert werden und die vorgewärmte Frischluft aus demselben abgezogen wird, was eine stabile Brennerflamme gewährleistet. Zudem wird dadurch Turbulenz im Rohr (7) erzeugt; diese erhöht den Wärmeübergang und verbessert weiterhin den Abfluss des Kondensates mit den Schadstoffen.
