In another aspect, the present invention relates to additional protection of an apparatus containing equipment capable of operating at cryogenic temperatures and containing cryogenic materials. An apparatus includes: (a) a primary enclosure defining an internal volume, wherein the primary enclosure includes primary walls, a primary ceiling, a primary floor, and a vapor venting system, wherein the primary enclosure is fabricated from a low temperature alloy, wherein at least a portion of the primary floor forms a slope, wherein the slope from a hydrocarbon outlet, wherein a perforated plate is located on top of the hydrocarbon outlet, wherein the perforated plate is fabricated from a low temperature alloy; and (b) a fire retardant agent applied to the exterior surface of the primary enclosure.

A process for the separation and liquefaction of component gases from a pressurized mixed gas stream (100) is disclosed. The process involves cooling the pressurized mixed gas stream in a heat exchanger (10) so as to condense one or more of the gas components having the highest condensation point; separating the condensed components from the remaining mixed gas stream in a gas-liquid separator (14); cooling the separated condensed component stream (118) by passing it through an expander (12); and passing the cooled component stream back through the heat exchanger (10) such that the cooled component stream functions as the refrigerant for the heat exchanger (10). The cycle is then repeated for the remaining mixed gas stream (116) and continues until all of the component gases are separated from the desired gas stream. The final gas stream (126) is passed through a final heat exchanger (30) and expander (32, 62, 82) to produce a refrigerant gas (108) for the heat exchangers and some liquid (106).

A Dewar system is configured to liquefy a flow of fluid, and to store the liquefied fluid. The Dewar system is disposed within a single, portable housing. Disposing the components of the Dewar system within the single housing enables liquefied fluid to be transferred between a heat exchange assembly configured to liquefy fluid and a storage assembly configured to store liquefied fluid in an enhanced manner. In one embodiment, the flow of fluid liquefied and stored by the Dewar system is oxygen (e.g., purified oxygen), nitrogen, and/or some other fluid.
