The device comprising a chromatographic detection pad with a sample application site and a detection side. The chromatographic detection pad defines a path for capillary fluid flow. The chromatographic detection pad has a pore size. The sample application site on the chromatographic detection pad is for application of a portion of the whole blood sample. The detection site on the chromatographic detection pad is spaced apart from the application site and is downstream of the sample application site. The chromatographic detection pad is devoid of a compound located downstream of the application site that is reactive to the whole blood sample.

The system includes a housing holding a test element and a container for releasing a developing medium onto the test element. The housing includes a base portion encasing both the container and the test element, and a cover. The system further includes specimen openings and results openings having different configurations, one from the other, which provides enhanced visualization of test results. The system also includes structure, such as channels, effective to control a rate of flow of developing medium to the specimen openings.

It is intended to provide a method of conveniently and efficiently assaying a glycoprotein, a fructosyl peptide or a fructosyl amino acid while lessening the effects of fructosyl lysines and an assay reagent. A method of lessening the effects of fructosyl lysines in assaying a fructosyl peptide or a fructosyl amino acid in a sample, characterized by comprising specifically treating the fructosyl peptide or the fructosyl amino acid with an enzyme for assaying the fructosyl peptide or the fructosyl amino acid at pH 4.0 to 7.0 and assaying the obtained product at pH 4.0 to 7.0; and a method of assaying a glycoprotein by using the same.
