摘要:
Embodiments of the invention provide a scintillator material, a scintillator system, and/or a method of detecting incident radiation using a scintillator material, or scintillator system, comprising a polymer material that comprises chromophores. Additional embodiments provide a scintillator material, scintillator system, and/or a method of detecting incident radiation using a scintillator material, or scintillator system, comprising a polymer material having one, two, three, or more, organic dyes dissolved therein wherein the polymer material having the one, two, three, or more dyes dissolved therein comprises chromophores. At least one of the dyes, termed the base dye, has a concentration in the range 0.5 to 3.5 mol/L. In a specific embodiment, the base dye has a concentration in the range 1.0 to 3.0 mol/L. This base dye concentration is high enough to achieve a substantial triplet-triplet state annihilation rate despite the negligible diffusion of the dye in the rigid polymer matrix.

A ceramic scintillator comprises a sintered body of a lutetium oxysulfide phosphor containing at least one element selected from Pr, Tb and Eu as an activator. The sintered body of a lutetium oxysulfide phosphor contains 5 to 15 ppm of an alkali metal element and 5 to 40 ppm of phosphorus. Such a ceramic scintillator can sufficiently make use of the intrinsic characteristics of the lutetium oxysulfide phosphor and has good sensitivity in X-ray detection even when it is downsized.

There is provided a scintillator array to be used for a neutron detector capable of detecting high energy neutrons with high definition and high efficiency. A scintillator array comprises a structure including a plurality of stacks layered each other. Each of the stacks has in sequence: a light reflector including ceramics or single-crystal silicon; a first film to react with a neutron incident along a direction intersecting a lamination direction of the stacks and thus emit a radiation ray; a second film including a material to reflect light; and a scintillator to emit light in response to the radiation ray. The light from the scintillator is reflected by the reflector and the second film to propagate an inside of the scintillator and thus to be led to an outside of the structure.

The invention relates to a method for optical detection of radiation, comprising the provision of a first component for converting radiation having an energy in the range greater than 10 3 eV into radiation having an energy in the range from 0.5 eV to 20 eV, and a second component for absorbing radiation having an energy in the range from 0.5 eV to 20 eV, wherein the second component emits detectable light due to the absorption. Thus it is firstly possible to detect radioactive radiation in a spatially resolved manner, and secondly, depending on the corresponding measuring structure, to obtain information on the type of radiation by means of a statistical evaluation or by layer thicknesses or different layer arrangements.

A gamma ray detector is described. The detector comprises a plastic scintillation body for receiving gamma rays and generating photons in response thereto. The scintillation body is in the form of a truncated cone defined by a base surface and an end surface separated along an axis of extent of the scintillation body with a lateral surface extending therebetween. A photodetector is optically coupled to the base surface of the scintillation body so as to detect photons generated by gamma ray interaction events within the scintillation body. A specular reflector is provided adjacent, but separated from, the lateral surface of the scintillation body so as to reflect photons that leave the scintillation body through the lateral surface back into the scintillation body.

An improved scintillator nanocomposite comprising nanoparticles with scintillating properties and a diameter between 10 and 50 nanometer and a first matrix material comprises is obtained by introducing the nanoparticles into a dispersing medium to form a stable suspension. The dispersing medium is a precursor to the first matrix material, which is cured to form the first matrix material.
