Die zweite Kontrollvorrichtung kann mehrere verschiedene I/O-Ports sowie elektrische Kreisläufe aufweisen, welche die Signale der vorstehend bezeichneten Ports verarbeiten. Die zweite Prozessoreinheit dient hauptsächlich der Kommunikation mit der zu kontrollierenden Vorrichtung. An der zweiten Prozessoreinheit ist außerdem der Anschluss mindestens einer Erweiterungsmodulkreisplatte möglich, durch welche die Kommunikation mit anderen verschiedenen zu kontrollierenden Vorrichtungen und/oder weiteren zu kontrollierenden Vorrichtungen durchgeführt wird.

The processor module segment includes a processor module and at least one local interface module for interfacing to a controlled device, and the expansion module segment includes interface modules for interfacing to other controlled devices. In the processor module segment, the processor module and said local interface module are interconnected by a bus segment, which is also connected to an upstream off-module connector. Each expansion module segment includes at least one interface module, and also includes a downstream off-module connector and an upstream off-module connector, which are interconnected by a bus segment. The downstream off-module connector of each expansion module segment is adapted to mate with the upstream off-module connector of the processor module segment and of other expansion module segment, so as to facilitate the interconnection of the processor module segment and a sequence of expansion module segments by establishing a unitary multi-drop bus comprising the processor module's bus segment and the bus segments of expansion module in the sequence. The processor module controls each controlled device through the respective local interface module or expansion interface module connected thereto. Dabei umfasst das Schaltegerät (2) eine Recheneinheit, einen Bildschirm (4), eine Bedieneinheit (6) und Signaleingänge (8) und Signalausgänge (10) sowie eine Datenschnittstelle (12). Ferner sind die Recheneinheit, der Bildschirm (4), die Bedieneinheit (6), die Signaleingänge (8) und die Signalausgänge (10) sowie die Datenschnittstelle (12) in einem gemeinsamen Gehäuse (14) untergebracht und Schaltfunktionen durch den Benutzer über eine menügeführte Benutzeroberfläche auf dem Bildschirm (4) programmierbar. Das programmierbare Schaltgerät schaltet dann unter Kontrolle eines Anwenderprogramms und in Abhängigkeit vom Zustand der Signaleingänge (8) den Stromfluß zwischen den Signaleingängen (8) und den Signalausgängen (10). Die Erweiterungsbaugruppe (20) umfasst eine in einem gemeinsamen Gehäuse (22) untergebrachten Recheneinheit und eine Datenschnittstelle (24). Über folgende Verfahrensschritte sind die beiden Geräte dann funktional koppelbar: initierung eines Erkennungsmodus innerhalb des Schaltegerätes (2), wobei eine Abfrage erfolgt, ob die angeschlossene Erweiterungsbaugruppe (20) initialisierbar ist oder nicht, ist die Erweiterungsbaugruppe (20) nicht initialisierbar erfolgt kein Datenaustausch zwischen Schaltgerät (2) und Erweiterungsbaugruppe (20), ist die Erweiterungsbaugruppe (20) initialisierbar, schaltet das Schaltgerät (2) in einen Erweiterungs-Kommunikationsmodus in dem der weitere Datenaustausch unter Kontrolle des Betriebssystems der Erweiterungsbaugruppe (20) erfolgt.
