A monolithic silicon, planar epitaxial, PN junction isolated integrated circuit employing an input stage for an operational amplifier in which the input stage displays reduced transconductance. This provides a means for reducing the size of the amplifier compensation capacitor which typically requires the most chip area of any circuit component. The transconductance reduction is achieved by forming the input stage from ratioed plural collector lateral transistors (15,16) which drive a current mirror load (17). The plural collectors are cross-coupled to the current mirror load and the collector ratio determines the transconductance reduction.

The improved Class AB input stage monitors the needs of base current in the slewing transistors 22-25 and supplies that base current with extremely fast and precise feedback loops 90-93. This allows the input stage quiescent current to be very small and gets rid of the non-linearities associated with the lack of base current available to drive the slewing transistors 22-25 in a conventional prior art Class AB input stage. The input stage is a very efficient, low distortion, high small signals and full power bandwidth Class AB input stage.

Dieser Eingangsspannungs-Offset kann, insbesondere bei integrierten Schaltungen, dadurch verringert bzw. kompensiert werden, daß ein Transistor des Zweiges der Differenzverstärker-Eingangsstufe, mit dem der Vorwiderstand verbunden ist, eine größere Emitterfläche erhält als der entsprechende Transistor des anderen Zweiges.

The first emitter follower circuit and the second emitter follower circuit can increase an input impedance on the side of the inverting input terminal in the amplifying circuit. As a result, when a feedback circuit is connected between the inverting input terminal and the output terminal of the amplifying circuit, a fluctuation in a gain of the amplifying circuit according to a configuration of the feedback circuit can be suppressed.
