The methods provide seamless and reliable handoff of sessions between Base Stations while the mobile device is moving between picocells, by implementing a high-level of synchronization between the Base Stations and the Switch (129). Base Stations of picocells having small coverage areas communicate with the handsets. The communication protocol is divided into a low-level protocol (280, 281) performed by the Base Stations and a high-level protocol (283, 284) performed by the Switch connected to all the Base Stations. A server computing device receives a request to establish a call between a mobile device and a remote device, the request including context parameters and automatic number identification data. The server retrieves a first phone number and a dial delay value based upon the context parameters, generates a security token and a request token, and stores the security token, the request token, the context parameters, and the ANI data in a database record. The mobile device dials the first phone number to establish a connection with a telephony application. The mobile device generates DTMF tones based upon the request token and transmits the DTMF tones to the telephony application. The telephony application validates the request token and requests a second phone number to connect the mobile device and the remote device.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and an apparatus for establishing a circuit switched link for a WiFi handheld device, where the method includes: receiving a call request message sent by a WiFi handheld device, where the call request message is sent according to a SIP signaling format of VOIP; establishing a VOIP path with the WiFi handheld device according to the call request message; extracting a number of a called party from the call request message; and initiating a CS voice call to the called party according to the number of the called party, and establishing a CS voice path with the called party. By using the method and apparatus provided in the embodiments of the present invention, the WiFi handheld device may have a CS voice function and support a voice call without increasing any hardware cost, which enhances the service experience of a WiFi user and increases the revenue of an operator.

A method of paging a telecommunication device in a communication system that includes a first and a second wireless communication system. The second wireless communication system comprises a network controller that communicatively couples the telecommunication device to the wireless first communication system. A link is established via an interface between the network contoller and the wireless first comunication system whose services are accessed by the telecommunication device via the network controller while the telecommunication device is in the second communication system. A TCP/IP connection is esablished between the network controller and the telecommunication device. A paging message identifying the telecommunication device is received at the network controller from the first wireless communication system. At the network controller, a set of messages is exchanged with the telecommunication device over the TCP/IP connection, wherein the set of messages includes a paging request message sent from the network controller to the identified telecommunication device.
