Abstract:
The invention is related to improvements in the integrated process for producing sodium carbonate and sodium hydrogen carbonate by the ammonia-soda process. In particular, the invention concerns the method and system used for removing carbon dioxide from process gases by chemical absorption and using the recovered carbon dioxide in production of soda by the ammonia-soda process.
Abstract:
In one aspect, the present invention encompasses integrated processes for the conversion of epoxides to acrylic acid derivatives and polyesters. In certain embodiments, the methods of the present invention comprise the steps of: providing a feedstock stream comprising an epoxide and carbon monoxide; contacting the feedstock stream with a metal carbonyl in a first reaction zone to effect conversion of at least a portion of the provided epoxide to a beta lactone; directing the effluent from the first reaction zone to a second reaction zone where the beta lactone is subjected to conditions that convert it to a compound selected from the group consisting of: an alpha beta unsaturated acid, an alpha beta unsaturated ester, an alpha beta unsaturated amide, and an optionally substituted polypropiolactone polymer; and isolating a final product comprising the alpha-beta unsaturated carboxylic acid, the alpha-beta unsaturated ester, the alpha-beta unsaturated amide or the polypropiolactone.
Abstract:
Process for producing a hydrogen-containing product and one or more liquid water products using catalytic steam-hydrocarbon reforming. In the process, a portion of the make-up water is heated by the reformate and another portion of the make-up water is heated by the combustion product gas prior to introducing the make-up water to a deaerator. Water in the combustion product gas is condensed to form a liquid water product. The process may be integrated with a thermal water desalination process.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for separation of organic acids from mixture of ammonium salts of one or more organic acids and other compounds via an integrated process. The process involves suspending mixture of ammonium salts of one or more organic acids and other compounds in dry hydrocarbon solvent/s or mixtures thereof; wherein the selected hydrocarbon solvent/s or mixtures thereof have boiling point more than 100° C. and forms an azeotrope with water. The reaction mixture thus obtained is dehydrated azeotropically followed by esterification of basic salt of the organic acids by addition of alcohol in presence of metal or metal salt; thereafter the individual esters formed are separated by distillation and hydrolysed to obtain corresponding organic acids having more than 98% purity.
Abstract:
A process is described wherein otherwise unusable by-products from a process for the manufacture of trans HCFO-1233zd(E) are converted to a valuable product by introducing them into a process for the production of HFC-245fa. The process includes the catalytic hydrofluorination of a reaction mixture comprising the HCFO-1233zd production by-products.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is a method and system for production of carboxylic based chemicals. A method for producing at oxalic acid may include receiving an anolyte feed at an anolyte region of an electrochemical cell including an anode and receiving a catholyte feed including carbon dioxide and an alkali metal bicarbonate at a catholyte region of the electrochemical cell including a cathode. Method may include applying an electrical potential between the anode and cathode sufficient to reduce the carbon dioxide to at least one reduction product and converting the at least one reduction product and an alkali metal hydroxide to an alkali metal oxalate via a thermal reactor. The method may further include converting the alkali metal oxalate to oxalic acid at the electrochemical acidification electrolyzer. The method may further include the co-production of halogen products from the anolyte region of the electrochemical cell, by the oxidation of hydrogen halides used as an anolyte feed. The halogen may then be further reacted with other chemicals to produce chlorinated organics as well as inorganic compounds such as sodium hypochlorite.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods, process, and integrated systems for economically producing (E)-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene via vapor phase and/or liquid processes.
Abstract:
The instant invention relates, at least in part, to a method increasing the cost efficiency for dehydrohalogenation production of a fluorinated olefin by recovering and recycling spent dehydrohalogenation agent. In one aspect, the present invention relates to dehydrohalogenating a fluorinated alkane (e.g. pentafluoropropane and/or hexafluoropropane) in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent to produce a fluorinated olefin (e.g. tetrafluoropropenes and/or pentafluoropropenes). Removal of spent dehydrohalogenating agent from the reactor allows for facile separation of organic and dehydrohalogenating agent, the latter of which is recycled.
