A layer of exothermic material (426) is placed between the first workpiece (408) and the second workpiece (406). A plurality of currents (428) is applied to the layer of exothermic material (426) in a plurality of locations (433) and substantially at the same time such that an exothermic reaction (444) occurs in the layer of exothermic material (426).

A device for storing and discharging heat that employs thermal energy storage materials (TESM) and related methods of manufacturing the device. The device includes a housing, an array of capsules within the housing, and TESM contained in the capsules. The device exhibits a high initial power density. The TESM is encapsulated between metal plies. The metal plies may have a thickness on the order of 10−1 to 102 μm. The capsules may have a thickness from 0.5 mm to 20 mm. The volume fraction of TESM in the housing may be 0.5 or more. The housing includes an inlet, an outlet, and one or more flow paths for flowing a heat transfer fluid through the housing. The flow paths and the capsules are arranged so that the device has the required average initial power density.

The invention relates to a method for producing coated drawn metal. The inventive method is characterised in that the coating is applied to a closed metal foil which is transferred to a drawn metal after the coating process only. In particular, the coating can be embodied in such a way that it improves the adhesion of said drawn metal to electrode material and/or the surface electronic conductivity thereof. The inventive drawn metals are successfully used in the form of current derivators in/for an anode foil or in/or a cathode foil, for example for an electrochemical cell, in particular for a storage battery.

A process for refurbishing a worn surface (14,16) of a shroud support component (10) of a turbomachine, as well as a shroud support component (10) refurbished with the process. The process generally entails removing a surface region of the worn surface (14,16) so as to define a repair surface on the component (10). A braze tape (22,24) formed from a slurry to comprise a braze material and a wear-resistant alloy is then applied to the repair surface, followed by a heat treatment to cause the braze tape (22,24) to diffusion bond to the repair surface so as to define a built-up surface. The built-up surface is then machined to define a wear-resistant coating on the component (10).

摘要:
A method for applying a wear coating on a surface of a substrate is described. A foil of the wear coating is first attached to the substrate surface, and then fused to the surface, e.g., by brazing. The wear coating may be formed from a carbide-type material. The substrate is very often a superalloy material, e.g., a component of a turbine engine. A method for repairing a worn or damaged wear coating applied over a substrate is also described, along with related articles of manufacture.

An insulating glass unit is shown comprising a pair of generally parallel, spaced-apart glass panes (10, 12) and a spacer (14) peripherally joining the glass panes (10, 12) to each other. The spacer (14) is a tubular structure (16), and may include a particular desiccant (42) filling at least a section of the interior (26) and conforming to the interior (26) configuration thereof to contribute compressive strength to the spacer (14). The spacer (14) desirably is made from stainless steel sheeting having a thickness not greater than about 0.005 inches. In a preferred embodiment, the spacer (14) includes side walls (20) sealed to the glass panes (10, 12) and an outer wall (18) extending between the side walls (20) and having a sealant free portion (23) between the side walls (20) that extends substantially completely about the periphery of the glass unit.
